Hello

I have the 8GB variant of this phone and I would like to get some advice on a lean and mean rom which is great for productivity. Currently I'm running lineage 14.1 (latest build) and the phone constantly runs out of memory and acts really slow (I've installed this rom last week). I also flashed the low memory patch (the one that activates android Go on Oreo), but this doesn't really help.

i'd like to flash a rom (i really don't care which android version or which nice-to-have features it has) which will allow me to use this phone for work. Apps that I often use
- IM: Whatsapp and Slack
- Gmail
- Maps and Waze on Android Auto
- Chrome
- Spotify

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Here's what I do to have a bearable experience on my 8GB, 1GB ram Osprey while staying as up to date at possible. As you noticed the low ram patch doesn't do much, and makes some stuff choppier (and uglier).

- Latest official Lineage OS
- Root Patch from same thread
- OpenGapps in the 'Mini' variant, 'Stock' has huge bloat like Fit that destroys battery life. 'Mini' install will leave the AOSP version of some apps installed as well, you can delete or leave them, it's no big deal.

Nougat runs horribly on 1GB phones, and I found the culprit is the Google app constantly running in the background. Problem is that the Google Now launcher depends on it, so the first step is to install another launcher and set it as default. Nova is always great, my new lite favourite is the Go variant of the Rootless Pixel Launcher 3.4 (google it, can't post links)

Then I use the 'System App Remover (ROOT)' app to delete the Google app (it will store a backup), and other stuff like duplicate AOSP apps, the Now launcher etc. You'll lose dictation, but it's a good tradeoff IMO.

Remedies that I found to constantly running out of space on the 8GB variant:

- Configure Spotify to put its extra cache on the SD (if you have it) or it will eat up the User space real quick.
- Install as few apps as possible, use 'Lite' versions of Facebook and Facebook Messenger (crucial).
- Use 'Files to SD Card' and 'Photos to Directories by Date' apps to routinely move Whatsapp media and database backups and Camera pics and videos to SD.

Misc:
- AdAway (installed through F-Droid) makes browsing lighter.
- I use All-In-One Toolbox to do routine cleaning stuff and disable unnecessary apps running at startup, but neither has much impact on performance.
- Motorola camera works better on Osprey than the Google-provided stuff.

Hope that helps, I did all this recently and my phone's remarkably snappy for now.

Thanks, this makes a big difference.
However, Android Auto doesn't work without the Google App installed, but this is a sacrifice I'd like to make in order to get a decent phone.
