"fastboot oem unlock" to unlock without permission?

Hi,

I have a friends Redmi 3S Prime. I've sent the unlock request but more than 2 days have passed now, no info from Xiaomi. I've tried to use their Unlock tool but it says "no permission".
I came a across an idea to run "fastboot oem unlock". After running that I get a weird screen asking me Yes or No.

I'm not sure if I can brick a phone this way, so I'm asking if I should proceed?

Wait for 8-12 more days, and check your account, if you don't receive the confirmation yet.

I didn't get any confirmation but my account has been allowed later.
