January 30: Fennec/Firefox 47

Download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=16513

My build configuration file on github: https://github.com/optimumpr/Fennec_Firefox_Custom

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
This is a personal build of Fennec/Firefox 46.

Changes/Modifications/Differences as compared to official releases:

Telemetry, Updater, Googleplay, Maintenance Service, Stats, Google GCM, Tests, Crashreporter, Healthreport all disabled
Nefarious/Spying IPs removed

As a result, fewer connections to websites you don't click on, which translates into less load on CPU/GPU, less heat and better battery life

This browser's size is too big
Normal browser just under 10Mb

Sorry, but you just don't know that Firefox, Chrome/Chromium and a few other android web browsers have their own webview binaries, they don't rely on Android. Webview libs are about 30 mb in size. Just go and look at the official Firefox site: the browser is about 40 mb. Chrome has about 50 mb...

Here: http://firefox.en.uptodown.com/android
Firefox 43 has 38.3 mb...

Have you thought about uploading your build environment to github & making the builds available via f-droid?

#edit # just tested the browser & telemetry/health report are still present.
An excellent base for a hardened fennec is guardian project's orfox. The source is of course available on github.

How did you test it? The app was built with no telemetry and no health report flags and I saw those listed in the beginning of the build. You still have the interface, but nothing is being sent. If you go "view my report", you'll see there is nothing there. You can also disable both in about:config, but again, there is no telemetry/health report in this build.

Wrong choice of words on my part - I installed & saw the option in the menu as well as a notification to tune the settings;
I didn't check the network flow or test the features themselves in any way.

hallo, the google malware site block and the blocked extensions list are still on?

Some extensions won't install, as compared to the official Firefox, but most essential do work: Phony, Ublock and even noscript: https://noscript.net/nsa/ . Look down the page for an experimental alpha 3.5 build. And if you want to get rid of google+/facebook et all spying buttons, install Ublock, visit fanboy site: https://www.fanboy.co.nz/ and add social and anti-facebook lists. Those buttons will disappear for good.

The size of Aurora is 44.8Mb.
Nice browser. Thanks for this Google-free version! What do you mean by "Nefarious/Spying IPs"? From Firefox?

EDIT @optimumpro
What about contributing to IceCat instead of tweaking a browser alone?

@optimumpro: Do you have an archive, or would you be willing to compile, a version 42? I want to avoid the unsigned add-ons blockage that Mozilla implemented:
http://www.ghacks.net/2015/10/04/here-are-you-options-for-running-unsigned-add-ons-in-firefox/
You should be able to turn blockage off in about:config. That link you provided tells you how...
Even better-- the preference has not been removed from the Android version--yet. "in a future release" meh

I didn't see this edited post (unfortunately when someone edits a post with new info, xda does not send a notification).

Nefarious IPs: Google webview which is a part of firefox and android has numerous IPs of Google, DOD, Level3 Communications, Amazon and a few others, essentially creating routes where all your traffic goes through those servers (DOD mostly). I have been able to replace those in Android and Firefox webview. However, recently I chatted with one of Mozilla's developers. My question was for his guidance as to how to clean Firefox own code so that it only connects to the website I click on. His reply was: Impossible without completely re-writing the code. There are virtually hundreds of thousands of lines in the code (apart from webview) that force connections to various servers. He did not want to mention any, but when I referred to DOD, he said: this one is too. So, I gave up on trying to clean the code. Instead, one could use network analyzer to catch "bad" IPs and then manually insert them into Adaway's "your own block list." It is tedious, but I don't see any other way...
