Hey guys,

I've always rooted my galaxy S phones in the past, but I did never feel the need to root a nexus device until now. I would like to get the full functional pixel launcher, pixel navbar and the pixel apps to work on my nexus 6p, since they won't be coming to our devices.. But, since I've been out of all this for a while, I'd like to ask you some questions.

Is flashing TWRP and superSU still the way to go?
Is it still possible to flash system and radio to get the latest updates while still keeping your data?
Is root cloak working in 7.0?
What apps aren't working when rooted and what are other problems people run into with a rooted device these days?

Thanks in advance everyone!

There is a utility called FlashFire that will allow to to apply updates to a rooted phone without losing root or custom recovery.

Also, I've read somewhere that it's necessary to decrypt user data partition to make flashing zips possible. Is that true?

No, that is no longer true. TWRP 3.0.2-0 freezes on 7.0 encrypted so what you posted was the workaround. TWRP 3.0.2-2 is the latest version compatible with 7.0. You can install zips as normal. Thing is, it has a bug that affects backups. Read post #1152 of the TWRP thread for more info:
