The left edge has this purple tint, and whenever I see black text on a while background, I see these... faint horizontal lines extending from the text?

Has anyone gone the repair route with Nokia, and if so, how did it go? It's either that or I send it back.

The lines are a side effect of the screen. If you mean a thin line on the left side of the screen, this is a effect of the screen as well.

Well that's disappointing. As for the left side, I mean an area that's tinted pirple. It goes about 3/4 of a centimeter from the left edge.

That's not normal. Some people have a full colored line with the width of maybe 1/10th of a mm on one side of the screen. But you should contact the Nokia Hotline, Chat or Mail Support with this problem. Could be a faulty screen...

I just sent it back. Nokia was quoting a 7-10 business day turnaround time.

I got that purple thing too in one of my Lumia's. It went like a gradient across the whole screen for me. Changed it and the one I have now doesn't suffer from it at all.

The line-bleeding you mention from text though, it's part of the technology I'm afraid.

As stated above, the thin line is a side effect of the pentile display.

There's also a green one on the right side. It's a side effect of the pentile pixel arrangement.

On mine the purple gradient is only noticeable with low brightness on a grey/white background.

The screen is the only bad thing about the Lumia 800, even though it has its own advantages like the ClearBlack.
