Fingerprint to sleep on Android 9

Hi,

I've been using the app "Fingerprint Quick Action" in order to turn of the screen via fingerprint sensor.

Now with Android Pie it has stopped working. The devolper acknowledged that by saying:
"Android 9 does not allow listening fingerprints in background, so unable to use this app."
So my question is if there's another app or workaround in order to achieve it or am I out of luck?

I'd also love a solution to this. Looking through the Android documentation, I don't _see_ anything that indicates this couldn't work in Android 9. But I could be missing something. I'd take a crack at fixing it myself if someone could just point me in the right direction, or even just say precisely what makes it difficult in Android 9.

also need help with this. my phone's fingerprint reader worked fine pre-lineageOS but now only works to turn phone on, not off.
