Anyone else experience horrible battery life with their remote's "new" batteries? Mine died almost a month after unboxing. Is this normal?!?

Are you talking about the batteries that came with it? Those batteries are always crap and last maybe 1/3 of good brand batteries.

Fire TV Remote: Battery Life... Me Too!

I'm have the same problem. I recently bought a new pack of Durecell coppertop AAA, and they lasted 5 days, and I got a message saying my batteries are running extremely low. I use my AFTV exclusively for XBMC. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Has anyone updated the remote firmware? Mine says it is due for an update, but I haven't seen anything about it...

Yes, i've updated my remote to the latest version and I've been using the batteries that came with it for about a month now. Which reminds me, better pick up a package of triple AAA's...

Battery problem

I am having a bizarre problem with the Amazon Fire TV Remote batteries. I put in Energizer batteries and they last about 2-3 days before dying. I am on my 3rd set of batteries after about 8 days of owning this device. I think I have a defective remote somehow.

EDIT: I returned the damn thing to Staples and got another one.

Edit: That did not help. I am on my 3rd set of batteries in less than a month of opening the fire TV. At this rate, I better stock on AAA batteries. I am on the latest prerooted Firmware.

I had exchanged by FireTV at Staples for another one. The batteries were dying in 2-3 days only. Yikes. The new one doesn't have this issue yet anyway. If anyone is having issues where their FireTV remote is eating batteries really fast, I suggest return/exchange.

I just went through 4 sets of Energizer AAA batteries. It dies in about 2-3 days. I contacted support, and all they can do is replace everything. I spent like two days setting a bunch of stuff up on the Fire TV. So I just ordered another remote. When it arrives, I'll just package up the broken remote and return it for a refund. I hope the problem is on the remote side and not on the Fire TV itself somehow draining the remote. The remote was updated to the latest firmware, and it still drained the batteries. I paired the Fire TV with my Fire Stick remote, and apparently, the Fire Stick Remote doesn't have any firmware. I'm not an electrical engineer or anything, actually I am, but I'm guessing that the mic might be draining the battery. Our kids are loud and they make noise all freaking day. So the remote is probably trying to process all the gibberish from the kids all day long. I might just put some electrical tape to cover up the mic, and see if that makes a difference.

I have had to put knew batteries in the remote every other day if use. Over the holidays, each evening I tried to use it required new batteries. I believe the box never actually turns off so the remote continuously searches and waits for a command. There is no on off button on the box. It may be a design flaw. Last evening I removed the remote batteries. I might have to do this each time I'm finished watching for the day. Annoying!

Batteries and remote

All of a sudden, I too seem to ahve that problem. In fact I put in fresh and those lasted about 1/2 hour. Mayabe it was the batteries but now I have a new set. I agree with one person.. think it might be a bad remote.?

I think everyone is most probably experiencing exactly what I've experienced, it's not that the batteries are dying from you take one out and then put it back in the remote then works. I have 3 fire boxes and all three remotes do this, can be within minutes of using, can be days. No idea why this is happening but sounds like this could be an on going problem.

2 weeks ago I changed the batteries out of my remote, the ones that came with the remote when I got it like what, almost 2 years now? But there has been like 2 or 3 times I did have to take the batteries out and put them back in to get the remote working/recognized by my FireTV 1. So it has happened to me, but not very often.

We have two Fire TV boxes and two voice remotes. They both have worked fine, except the one remote has recently started chewing through good quality alcaline batteries within 1-2 weeks at the most. The other remote is fine.

Is this a firmware issue on the remote? With so many people complaining for so many years it must have come to Amazon's attention ?

    Remote Reset

In case any one is interested, for the fire stick voice remote, there is a factory reset sequence for the remote 3 buttons at the same time menu + return + left(9pm on the circle) for at least 15 seconds. After this I had to use the remote app on my phone to "add remote" on the device to get it to work again.. we'll see how the battery life is now.

My "new" from the box Amazon batteries only lasted 1 week before I got the on screen message to replace :crying: I've changed to a set of cheap Lidl batteries, so far they've lasted longer than the originals.
