Could you clarify step 1? Does it mean if your already rooted you and have cwm, that you can skip downgrading to 51.1.0.2 ?

Reason I ask is I'm on 5.1.1.3.0, and ran the aftv-full-unlock, it did it's thing, rebooted. I rebooted to fastboot to do some tests.

Code:
C:\Android>fastboot oem device-info
...
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.008s

C:\Android>fastboot boot firetv-cwm_recovery-6.0.5.1.2.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.269s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: boot not allowed for locked hw)
finished. total time: 0.286s

C:\Android>

@Luxferro were you able to resolve this or is the fire-tv still locked?
@rbox did you try this and it worked?
Also, can you start fire-tv in fastboot/bootloader mode by some key combination on the usb keyboard or it can only be done by adb reboot bootloader command?

Any chance of someone making a video tutorial of this?
I have not done any bootloader or CWM changes, and I am already on the 51.1.0.2 version.
I am only rooted with the dcp updater disabled via the "pm disable" command.

If a USB A to A cable is plugged in to a computer when it boots, it will stop in the bootloader.

@rbox, you mean even without any special key combination if it's connected to a computer via USB during bootup, it'll go to bootloader mode automatically?
Also, did you try sending a boot.img from fastboot and it worked?

Many thanks for all your work. I'm a happy FireTV user and all credit goes to your hardwork.

Yes, if it's connected, it just sits in the bootloader waiting for you to do something.

As the OP states, both fastboot flash and fastboot boot work.

It was resolved with -v2 of the rbox's unlock tool.

You can reboot directly into the bootloader when you have the device off, A to A cable plugged into host and device, then power up.

If you plug in the A to A with the device already on, it will keep the device powered by the host, even if you remove the power brick connection... so that's why you need to start in off condition.

Hi,

First Thank You to rbox for his contributions on the FTV. I have a couple of questions regarding this:
* I have rooted, then partially unlocked bootloader, then installed CWM, then upgraded to pre-rooted 51.1.4.0, then installed custom boot menu, then upgraded to pre-rooted 51.1.4.1... Do I need to downgrade before performing this Full Bootloader Unlock? I don't want to brick my device!

* What advantages does performing this give? Does this give us immunity from Amazon updates that will take root away permanently?

Thanks!

As the OP states "If you already have CWM installed, you can skip this." As for what this gives you.. Not much really. If you do something stupid, you have to ability to boot into recovery with fastboot. That's about it.

I am in a special case where I am already on 51.1.0.2 but I don't have CWM installed yet.
So,should I install CWM,and then what do I do since I am already on the right firmware version?

What special case? The ONLY mention of CWM in the OP is that if you already have it, you can skip the downgrade. Otherwise it says nothing of CWM. The first step is downgrade to 51.1.0.2. If you are already at 51.1.0.2, then there is nothing to do. Go on to step 2.

Rbox,

Thanks for your prompt replies here. One quick question: If I perform this, and down the line I somehow manage to accidentally take an Amazon update which takes away my root completely, then can I use the fact that my bootloader is fully unlocked to my advantage to re-root via USB? Or, would that Amazon update be able to relock the bootloader once again?

Thanks again,

E.

There are no "accidental" updates. You have to royally screw up to get an update. This unlock is dependent on the bootloader version. If you do stupid things and screw up and get an update, then the new bootloader will not recognize the unlock.

Thanks RBox, so as I understand an Amazon update includes a bootloader which will be locked and not recognize this unlock. I have multiple layers of prevention from somehow taking an update including disabling dcp but trying to be as safe as possible just in case.

I really can't wait for a full stable non-Amazon ROM to be released for this box; the fact that they are so hard at work preventing us from enjoying the devices we have purchased makes me want to disassociate from them even more.

Thanks again...

There is no separate original and unlocked bootloader image... The unlock doesn't modify the bootloader.

What did you do to get there? Is anything plugged in to the USB? What version were you on? Do you have a USB A to A cable?

What if you don't have anthing plugged in to the USB? When you get the A to A cable, try running 'fastboot continue'. But I don't know what the fire tv utility 39 does...
