Does this new firmware modify or replace the stock i777 bootloader ?
Is this firmware pre-rooted or can we root using SuperOneClick?
Will this firmware display i9100 during bootup of the phone?

Don't want to be asking too many questions in the same post but where is the download LINK? :)

I probably won't update with this until it's official (doesn't look like it is yet, but I could be wrong?), but I had a related question:

If your phone is rooted, can you install official updates as they're pushed to your device? I know that on my iPhone, after you jailbreak, you have to do a clean install to the latest firmware and then re-jailbreak everything and bother with restoring all of your settings/apps. Never was worth it, so my firmware was pretty behind. Wondering if it's the same situation here.

I know that on my iPhone, after you jailbreak, you have to do a clean install to the latest firmware and then re-jailbreak everything and bother with restoring all of your settings/apps. The only time you need a clean install/flash of stock firmware is if you want to update firmware using the
phone's OTA upgrade (over the air) feature of the phone. OR if you need to return the phone for servicing (warranty).

The only time you would need to re-ROOT the phone is if you decide to flash the 100% stock firmware to the phone.
You can backup and restore stock firmware which your phone came with as well as any custom firmware.
There is a free app at the Android Market called "CMW Manager" which is so easy to use that it's self explanatory.

Once the phone is ROOTED you can always un-ROOT it very easily but I have no idea why someone would want to do that.
All the custom firmwares here on XDA are pre-rooted so the phone only needs to be rooted once.

Also if you select to allow Google to save all your settings to your gmail account during the initial installation
of any new rom/firmware the phone will not only restore your settings, but it will automatically download/install
any missing apps which you have downloaded from the android market.

Has anybody tried using the modem from this ROM in KH7 to potentially help with WiFi? I don't know about anybody else but my WiFi is pretty bad with KH7.

Probably your router and not the modem.
I agree. This isn't a Qualcomm-based device where the modem firmware bootloads everything and does 34288342 functions other than basic modem management.

It does one thing and one thing only: Cell radio management. It will not affect WiFi in any way, it will only affect functions that depend on cell data or other phone functions.

Any way to root this without losing Wi-Fi?
Not right now, however if DG gets me a zImage dump I can pick apart the initramfs to possibly find an issue. Infuse owners had the same issue where wifi didn't work on 2.3.5 leaks with custom kernels, a few initramfs tweaks and a manual workaround got it at least to the point where wifi is working but loses settings after boot. The same fixes may apply to I777 2.3.5 leaks.

DG - did I9100 2.3.5 leaks ever have wifi problems like this?

Got it rooted now and have Wi-Fi. I flashed codeworkx kernel, super-one-click rooted, then flashed the stock J1 kernel. And, I no longer have the "yellow triangle" at boot.

Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I777UCKJ2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKJ2

Ok...I'm retarded I guess but how do I "flash" this? I d/l'ed the firmware file but it's not a .tar file...it's an .exe? I was curious as I expected either a .tar to flash through Odin or a .zip to flash via Clockwork Mod???

I know I'm definitely not getting something here...I guess I should maybe just wait for an official "2.3.5" release? (I'm stock rooted on UCKH7.)

re: this firmware

I really need to know:

Is this firmware pre-rooted or can we root using SuperOneClick?
Will this firmware display i9100 during bootup of the phone?

It's an Odin exe. Just open on your PC and go.
