Hi.

I have a G955U Galaxy S8+ AT&T Factory Unlocked on Android 7.0

Baseband Version: G955USQU1AQD9
Android Security Patch Level - April 1, 2017

I no longer live in the US, and currently in the Philippines. Phone works great and the signal is too and all, but I cannot get OTA updates.

Can I just download the firmware file in this thread and flash straight through ODIN, or do I need to follow another guide?
1. This is old firmware
2. This is for the S8, not the plus.

You can Odin this which is the latest Oreo version (Use new Odin I posted in the thread under this one. Older versions WILL NOT work)

Could you send me a quick guide coz Im really not that tech savy.

And after flashing that, will OTA updates work?

Edit - Link brings me nowhere "hotlinking not cool"

Go to updato.com and search firmware for G955U1. Sort by date and download the latest version CRB9, I use the XAA carrier code but you can download whichever carrier version you want.

This is the Odin you'll need to flash: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1toAmWAKE4YTuI02RyylvbMIvE_Q7ml7n/view?usp=drivesdk

Sorry if I have to ask, but what does XAA carrier code mean?

Edit - So I searched for G955U1 Firmware and I see what you mean by carrier codes. But with Carrier code XAA, will I be able to use my phone here in the Phiilippines?

I mean in the end, I want to achieve a fully unlocked s8 plus, with no carrier bloatware and to receive OTA updates normally. Is this possible?

Thanks for being patient with me :)

So if I get this straight, download the firmware from updato, and also the latest ODIN, and flash it. I will have a unbranded S8 plus that will work in the philippines?

Do I need to care about "bootloaders"? - Ive read other posts where they always talk about that.

Yes, you will have an unlocked phone + firmware (as long as it's unlocked through the carrier)

No, all the newer firmware is version 2 bootloader. A while back a bunch of idiots jumped the gun scaring people about false information about version 3 and flashing other firmwares, but we're still on version 2.

Judging that I can use another carrier here in the Philippines, means that my phone is already unlocked through my carrier right?

I see, so basing on my current firmware I am on bootloader version 2? Is it possible Im on bootloader 1? Sorry if I ask too much, dont wanna brick my phone. :(

and one more thing, I read about sideloading the OTA thru the samsung firware science website. That is also another approach for me to reach Oreo right? but I will still have AT&T bloatware on?

You can go from bootloader 1 to 2 and 2 to 2 no problem.
Firmware science is all carrier firmwares so yes it will have bloat.

Hi. So I tried flashing the firmware using princecomsy odin.
Two things happen,it'll either pass in just 2 seconds and phone will just reboot, or odin will crash when I click start.

Ive tried almost everything Ive read here on XDA.

You can't use that Odin for Oreo. Search for my started threads. I posted the Odin you need.

Gotcha. Will try soon. Btw, I have read multiple guides, some say use home csc others say dont. Whats your take on that?
I don't use the home csc because I prefer to reset it and start fresh when I change firmware types. If I was just updating unlocked firmware for example I'd use Home but going from carrier to unlocked firmware I'd use the non home
