How do install the ota manually? I'm not rooted.

Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA Free mobile app
So no root/unlock?
I cant remember how stock recovery is, but I think copy the file to int sd, then boot into recovery and install from there. I think.

I thought it was done that way, is there a way to verify that this will work? I don't want to brick the phone.

There are options in stock recovery, that being one of them. I think Normally it installs from /cache. But without root you can't write to it.
It should install because it's signed from LG/Sprint.
You'd have to look at the options in stock recovery to know for sure.

I've updated ota zip in the past by moving zip to sd card and installing from the external sd card option in recovery - this time I'm being told the sd card cannot be mounted and invalid argument - any ideas?

I'm an old fart still learning so your help is greatly appreciated - after downloading on my g3 do I move the file? I've tried straight from download and external sd card with same issue - tia
Just to be sure, you do realize there is no root for this yet. Right? Which means you're stuck with stock until root is found. And, your bootloader will be locked. So no flashing of anything.

If that's the case, then move it to root of Internal SD. Then it should find it.
Make sure to check the md5sum also to make sure you have a good DL.
It should work, but as I said, I haven't done this with stock recovery yet. Just so you know.

You can also just flash one of the ZV6 Rom's in Development. That way you keep root/unlock.

I'm new to LG and trying to wrap my head around the differences from HTC. (8 year HTC user). For those asking about flashing update via stock recovery,...I know on HTCs, if you have an update firmware that is an img file, you would .make sure it's named properly (PJ75IMG for example) and boot into bootloader, and bootloader would check file for a signature and if good, bootloader flashes it. Is there no similar function on LG?
Come to think of it, I haven't even seen the bootloader on this device. Anyone here familiar with HTC and could help me relate?

I've come from Samsung & all I had to do was download ota zip, move to sd and install in recovery - all from the phone, no computer needed-no luck with the g3-I'm prolly just gonna wait - lol

OP updated with OTA update zip (official OTA link direct from google servers) and directions on how to install it.

I only suggest running this OTA zip if you are a stock user (or stock rooted) with stock recovery installed and have no plans to do more than root the phone at most.

I'd suggest rooting ZV4 and installing TWRP if you wanna maintain an "open" device that can flash anything at any time.

so question: If I had a rooted ZV4 stock system then loaded Bump TWRP then loaded the boot/system/modem files from ZV6 separately and now want to run the whole ZV6 update to get all the files updated, can I safely do this after making a backup and not lose any data?

thanks!

Has anybody stock rooted, took the ota update yet for zv6 and kept root? Or if they were rooted, and lost root after update, can you please confirm either way? Id rather just take the ota since all Im concerned with is having root and not custom recovery or kernel.

I'm having a near-identical issue. I placed the proper zips in root storage of internal sd card, ensured proper naming of all files and folders, made backups (thank goodness for Nandroid), did the wipes, flashed the proper zips. When I flashed the Flash2System.zip first it said unable to mount
'/system/' despite saying "Success!", and if I attempt to flash the modem and boot zips it replicates identical responses. However, if I flash the boot zip first, all is well, flash the modem zip next, all is well, flash the system zip and boom, unable to mount system, no OS installed. Time to restore, reboot, and research. Fingers crossed hoping we can figure this out. Shall I provide a TWRP log?

I'm rooted, but running stock ROM, and received the notification. So being rooted wouldn't necessarily be the cause.

I downloaded the Google OTA file, renamed it, and put it on my external SD card. When I go into stock recovery, and try to install it via SD, I get an error saying it couldn't mount the SD? Anyone else having this problem? I'm not rooted. The error is - e: failed to mount/sdcard (invalid argument)
