Well I took a gamble and bought a used Sensation off of Craiglist. The seller clearly stated that there was a problem with the unlock screen that it took a couple of tries to unlock it. It had few scratches on the battery cover but other then that it was in good shape and at a low price. I decided to buy cause I need smartphone to try out T-mobile's new $30 unlimited internet prepaid offer. I'm coming off of page plus using a Droid 2 and I'm familiar with Android and flashing.
So I tried it when we met and he was right that unlock screen took a few tries to unlock.
Once it was unlocked however it worked fine. So I figured and really hoped that it was a software issue. I asked the guy if he had flashed the phone and he said yea.
I tried doing away with the lock screen by using an app from the marketplace. However the screen will now freeze whenever I woke it up. It took a few pushes on the screen for it to respond.
I looked at the rom and it seemed pretty recent a senseomaniac rom with sensen 3.5. I was bummed because I figured that this rom should have taken care of the issue if it was hardware issue.
I looked online and found this thread on another thread that talked about a grounding issue with the back cover. I tried taking the cover off, grounding the pin on the phone to ground and the issue would not go away. I finally flashed this files to my phone and it works!
The screen problems that I was experiencing are gone. Thanks for the help guys.

OK, the OP doesn't tell me how to get into the bootloader and because this isn't my phone I had to look it up. IOW, the steps aren't explanatory enough. :)

Anyway, this should be a stock locked T-Mobile phone with Gingerbread. When I hold Vol - and Pwr from a powered off state it takes me to the bootloader menu. When the PG58IMG.ZIP file is on the root of the SD card, I see that it automatically says something quickly and disappears, leaving me back at the normal bootloader menu as if there were not even an SD card at all. By repeatedly picking FASTBOOT then BOOTLOADER to trigger the flash of info repeatedly, I managed to piece together that it is showing something like this:
SD Checking...
Loading...PG58DIAG.zip
No image
Loading...PG58DIAG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
Loading...
PG58IMG.zip
[New Screen]
Checking PG58IMG.zip

This is a stock Gingerbread ROM that hasn't been booted since sometime this summer when the owner shattered the glass and damaged the LCD, in case that helps determine how up-to-date the software might be. I just repaired those other issues and and noticed the terrible touchscreen responsiveness and hoped to fix that too, but I can't use the T-Mobile update considering that I have no SIM card (in owner's other phone for the last several months). :)

I'd like to have this taken care of before I return his phone. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Somehow got the OTA update over WiFi and the screen works great now. Thanks guys!

is the phone still s-on? you don't need the sim to get the official stock update. connect it via wi-fi and download/install it.

Thanks. That's exactly what I did (see the edit). I don't even know what S-ON is but I imagine it has something to do with flashing ZIP files that are modified. As far as I know, it was completely stock and any kind of validation was still required. The instructions did not mention needing any kind of modified recovery or what to do if you needed to update on a stock ROM/recovery in the event that you had no OTA capability for no other reason than not having service. :) Yes, I discovered that it would update "OTA" through WiFi but that isn't the case with many other providers/devices. Thanks!

s-on is, like you said, a stock phone with all the security stuff still intact. we root our phones to gain s-off and the ability to flash different roms, radios, recoveries, firmwares, i.e. fun stuff :) glad it worked for you!

Just got this phone and would really prefer to not mess anything up and brick it, as I'm coming from a Samsung phone. Can I restore my phone back to 1.50.531.1 using the RUU and then flash this without a problem? Or does that RUU include this, as well? Thanks in advance.

are you stock? if so, don't worry about this particular thread. update via t-mobile.

I'm not anymore, I'm on Reverted AOSP v1.1.0 now. Just wondering in case I were to say, flash ICS firmware and want to go back to stock.

i believe this firmware was extracted from a ruu and made flashable for people with s-off. i think we have some threads that cover the going back to earlier gb ruus. never done it myself, so wouldn't know for sure :)

I can actually say that this firmware by itself does not go back after ICS. I flashed 3.32 and then an ICS ROM. I had previously been on 3.12 with GB ROMS because I needed wifi calling and I didn't have a good one to go back to other than 3.12. I think 3.12 was buggy so I wanted to try a true GB firmware and tried this.

So to summarize, flashed 3.32, booted ICS, reflashed this, restored backup, and got stuck in a bootloop. Found 1.17 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 and flashed that and it fixed my bootloop issues.

Hope this helps somebody else looking to do something similar.

Both of these links are dead but is this considered old information and files anyway since the release is now 3.32.401.5 or do I need to apply this also in addition to the 3.32 FW.

Since I flashed this version I have lost any functionality with my capacitive backlights on the touchscreen below the main screen and also my proximity and light sensors.

I am looking for any answers anywhere I can get them because I have scoured the entire site and there are only problems reported by users and ZERO definite answers!

I NOW HAVE THIS:
Baseband Ver: Radio_11.68.3504.00P_11.21.3504.13_2

Build Number: 3.32.401.5.CL309896 release-keys

This is what was installed BEFORE (as in 10 mins ago):

Baseband Ver: Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M (For some reason the U on my phone is a P instead).

Build Number: 3.32.401.5.CL309896 release-keys

I am running the following ROM:

Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Sense 3.6 ROMs ICS or GB ¯´·.¸¸. - March 15, 2012

PLEASE NOTE: All the sensors and capacitive lights are NOT working and have never worked with either versions that I installed above.

Well I forced the update haha. I just downloaded the file from here an checked if it worked and it don't fail at all for me. Maybe the different regions causes different problems
blahbl4hblah: I was just curious and wanted to ask something since you are a TMOUS Sensation 4G user (and we are also both in L.A.) and more importantly that you are a recognized developer.

I got this phone and unlocked it, loaded FW 3.32 and installed an ICS ROM. Since I did this I lost all functionality of my Proximity Sensor, my Ambient Light Sensor, and my Capacitive backlights for the touchpad buttons under the LCD. I have elliminated the factor that it is a hardware problem because I found a few other threads that give some tips, but do not offer any real solutions.

I am really at the end of my rope here because it is NOT a hardware issue, and I have tried various FW's and ROMs and the problem remains the same. One thing I did do that brought them all back to life was when I fixed permissions in 4EXT Recovery. After I did that I booted into the ROM and they were fine. I rebooted just to see if the fix would stick, and it did not.

Do you have ANY tips or ideas on what this could be? I tried different ROMs and it is the same problem. Is it a FW problem?? Right now I have 3.32 and am using a ROM with a stock HTC Kernel and still nothing.

Do you have any advice you could give a semi noob on this? It seems that only me and a handful of other people are having this problem...I really really really am at my whits end here on this because I want my hardware fully functional :-(

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!
