They all seem to be in a somewhat standardized format.
I have a reteu device on the latest firmware and would like to backup the current untouched original state, so I don't have to go through the whole update ordeal again when I want to install an OTA for new firmware.

This RETAIL firmware for which region of Moto Z Play? I am from India, Can I download this RETAIL version for my Moto z Play Indian variant nougat? And please also tell the difference between RETAIL and RETASIA for India?

When will there be 7.1.1 firmware? I'm on a soak test and by bootloader is not unlockable

I get the following after trying to restore stock firmware since my backup did not restore properly.

You cannot downgrade that way. It would lead to a hard brick.
Flash the latest stock rom that's floating around. I think I saw one with the September patches.

Hey thank you for the info. Could you please point me to the file and perhaps a guide just to make sure, I dont want to screw up my IMEI # as I read warning on other posts. Perhaps you could PM me the link?

I had the same thing happen. I just flashed LineageOS and it worked fine. So I guess any custom ROM of your choice will do it.
The generic global RETAIL images don't seem to play/boot nice on all regional phones.
