You could try, In worst case scenario you end up in a bootloop. And probably flashing eng bootloader (or reflashing what you flashed in order to achieve root) makes your device turn on again. Please share your experience if you attempt it
I didn't get a bootloop, Thank God! But when it booted up I didn't really see a big speed up in the performance, maybe if I use it a little bit more then I'll see the difference

You know, I've come to realize that we are rooting our device to try to fix the problems that come with rooting! The only things that I'm running root for on my device are apps to help the performance... What REALLY is there for use for our device with a locked bootloader for us to actually use root for?
I desire root, because I use AAmirror in order to screen mirror my phone display up on my GM vehicle's factory Infotainment display as Android Auto completely sucks. Unfortunately AAmirror only works on a rooted system.

I've made v4a work with oreo succesfully. I will make a complete guide as soon as i can
but basically download and extract attached zip and copy .so files at system/
/lib/soundfx/
/lib64/soundfx/
/vendor/lib/soundfx/
/vendor/lib64/soundfx/
I got it working pasting it everywhere so i didnt bother which was actually the correct path

and open system/etc/audio_effects.conf/ and system/vendor/etc/audio_effects_common.conf and paste

under "libraries"
Code:
  v4a_fx {
path /system/lib/soundfx/libv4a_fx_jb_NEON.so
  }
#NECESSARY FOR XHIFI
        v4a_xhifi {
          path /system/lib/soundfx/libv4a_fx_jb_X86.so
  }
under "effects"
Code:
 v4a_standard_fx {
library v4a_fx
uuid 41d3c987-e6cf-11e3-a88a-11aba5d5c51b
  }
#NECESSARY FOR XHIFI
        v4a_standard_xhifi {
          library v4a_xhifi
          uuid d92c3a90-3e26-11e2-a25f-0800200c9a66
        }
I've attached also my audio_effects.conf and audio_effects_common.conf so you can use them as a guide-to if you need. you may try overwriting it too if you want
Before I embark on my final installation of v4a, would you mind sharing which version you used throughout this guide?

Again, thank you!

I got rid of any L speed tweaks, and su scripts. I am only using the apps SSD Boost and Speed up swap linked below. Both require root and for Speed up Swap I set it to very fast. I have tested these for the past two days on a fresh and clean install of CRG2 and have noticed a marked increase of speed and no lag. Also once a day I hit the optimize button on the device manager widget if i noticed it getting clogged down. So far my phone is almost as fast as my Pixel.
I'm on the stock Oreo 8.0.0 on my G935V. Flashing the "BL" file didn't work at all, but installing the apps you've mentioned, it improves a few the annoying lag. It's almost the same before the root, but I don't understand why I lost almost 700Mb of RAM...!? :confused:

I feel ya,,,its something to do with that eng boot,,,,its gives root which is great but it uses huge amounts of ram and device resources which causes the lag and heat issues. It sucks that is the best we can get.
