Jumping / trembling Touchscreen Issue

Sirs, I had got a very weird issue with the touchscreen:
It "jumps" to positions, that were not touched at all. I recognized it in the following situations:
  • touch and hold an item: The touch and hold is not recognized, because the position of the hold is not clear (jumps).
  • editor/keyboard: If you type an sms or edit a file, suddenly letters appear, that were not touched at all.
  • Browser: you hold your finger on a web site to scroll it up/down-left/right and the screen does not really follow your finger but trembles.
I then entered the "settings" - "developer options" - "developer tools" - "Pointer location" (CM10.1 rom) and only moved the finger from left to right. Instead of some horizontal lines, the lines tremble and look like a saw and on various positions on the screen appear pixels and lines as well. Have a look at the screenshots. I attached tree screenshots: Two with the described issue and one without the issue.

I tried all, different roms, the contacts of the Touchscreen, I even disassebled / reassembled the phone completely - the problem goes and appears again.

Finally I found the problem - it was the power supply! A friend has mistaken his and mine power supply and his one has got a not obvious problem of a faulty galvanic isolation - the phone was normally charged but this causes the described jumping touchscreen problems!

(I marked a few words so that the main points can be captured for everyone reading this fast)

My touchscreen is acting funny now. Sometimes while working on my phone..The phone automatically hits random points simultaneously..Just random points are touched (this i saw when i enabled the pointer location in the developer's option)...There are, at the same time, 4-5 touch points shown!!
Making it difficult to use the phone. After I switch off the screen and switch on, it problem goes away for a few mins and then its back again!! Formatting has not solved it as well. The onl workaround i have is when i discharge my phone all the way down, remove the battery for a few mins, charge it overnight with out touching the phone, and by morning its fine. Yet in a few days..this is back!! Whats the issue here?

Ahh..Yes my problem is also somewhat similar...What can be the solution to this?
delta-roh says that's power supply fault. I'm not english, but I'm assuming he's referring to the battery charger. Try to change charger and cable and make a full charge. Or try to charge you battery with PC USB. It's slower, leave it overnight. :good:

@delta-roh: can you confirm that you are referring to the charger? ;)

Yes, Sir, I can confirm it was the faulty original HTC charger.

please, can you try a fast gesture now?
pull down the notification bar and holding it, rapidly move it up and down, see if it gets released or not.
thanks.

Spit out from a Sensation XE, a revived device while was dying due to lack of support, with TeamVenom, SebastianFM, and other astonishingly amazing developers' benignity...

Ok..I get the picture here. Has the problem disappeared now? After you replaced the charger?
Sirs, as I wrote already. I identified the charger as the source of the problem. After I got my charger back the problem was gone. Also I could reproduced the problem with the faulty charger with different phones. So just check your charger - have you got the touchscreen problem when you do not charge? Then you will have got a different problem. If your touchscreen only "goes mad" during charging, then replace your charger.

See the thing is i never had this problem when i had my original charger. I started using someother charger and i noticed this problem. I keep my phone on charge, when i used to remove it, the screen would go mad like. This never happened if i did a complete cycle and dint change till my battery drained. If i charged my phone in between, the problem came up. I have my original chargen now. Lets see how that goes. Did u have something similar?

I did. When I used Chinese charger: pressed one icon, responded other one. But phone works good with other brand chargers like SE, Samsung.

Hey everybody, I bought a Sensation second hand yesterday, and I'm having a tough time unlocking the screen. Running some tests, I can confirm that it's happening on only one section of the screen. I've tried the fixes mentioned here, but they don't seem to be making any difference.

I did pull the battery for a little bit, then reassembled and immediately did a full reset. The entire touchscreen started working perfectly fine everywhere. However, after about 20 minutes, it went back to being unresponsive again.

Does anybody think this would be a firmware issue? It's on the latest ICS firmware from T-Mobile US.

I've attached a screenshot from ScreenTouchTest showing the affected area.
i'm having identical touchscreen errors on my wife's sensation. i have attached a picture i took of her screen after using "simple touchscreen tester". for the most part, it is 2 horizontal bars near the bottom of the screen (the black parts show "no touch response"). does this appear to be a bad digitizer? i have already tried the steps in the OP and i'm using an OEM HTC USB cable plugged into a USB port on my surge protector.

Yeah, turn on Developer options->"Pointer location" and "Show touches" to see what the heck is going on. I think that from charger to case goes electricity and freak touchscreen out.

Followed the guide on page one, and fixed my issues.
Over the course of my contract I had 5 (yes 5!) phones which all developed this issue, which were swapped under warranty.

I'm now out of contract, SIM only and rooted so I was annoyed when my handset developed this problem, but the guide sorted everything out.

Thanks!

I found following method to prevent crazy-touch-screen after usb-cable connecting:

firstly I do swipe left-right main screens & only then doing other thing I need.

Amazing....

I purchased a Sensation 4G on Ebay that had a cracked digitizer and a beat up housing. I replaced the digitizer and purchased a housing that was apparently non-oem, it had no ground point.

The device slowly became unresponsive after 2-3 weeks. I thought it was the custom ROMs but after flashing the shipped ROM and firmware and no improvement I figured it was a defective digitizer. I happened to run across this post and tried it and it worked!!!!

I attached a piece of aluminum foil on the ground point and drained the battery, left the battery out overnight, charged it without touching the screen and its good as new!!!

Great post!!! :good:

I love XDA!!! :highfive:
