Hi all!

Today I installed the update 4.0 manually. It looks great! But *duh now I dont have root. Okey lets download a new su.zip and then install it in the recovery mode. What the hell? There is no more recovery! If I try to get in there I just have a black screen. Ok lets use google: other people have this problem since update 4.0 , solution: use another recovery/reinstall it. Well i never used Clockwork but people saying that should work, so I downloaded it.

What now? Lets install it. The tutorial-guy on youtube is using "flash ..." and "flash boot ..." so I do this in the shell:

fastboot flash boot recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img

Reboot and now everything is different. Nice, I can install the new su.zip. Im rebooting and... im again in the clockwork recovery menue. I just like "", "ok lets restart again". Then Im again in the Menü. Huh? Lets take the battery out and wait a little bit. Done, but im always in clockwork rec menue. Im searching for solutions. I got some of them "install it new", "use recovery" so I reinstall it:

fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img

Nothing changed. Then I tried to use something else like "TeamWin Recovery" (cannot post page, because not allowed as n00b), I was able to install it but now there is always twrp then im starting the phone!

What the hell should I do? I cannot use my phone :/
Thanks for any help!

Have you tried to do a full wipe,
Hi. Sorry I dindt say that I tought about to wipe but im too scared. I never wiped and I tought if I do something wrong then my smartphone will really die. So I was hoping there is a solution without wiping and loosing all of my data. There isnt? :(

Do you have access to your usb storage?
(connect to your computer, go in clockworkmod recovery to mounts and storage -> usb storage)
if you have any data to save from sdcard its a good point to that now.

Well the reason is obvious, you flashed the boot partition with a recovery image -- so it will always boot into recovery ;)

To fix it, you can flash any ROM to replace the boot partition with a bootable kernel. But if you want to install the official ICS, you have to flash the latest full OTA package for your phone model.

Well you could always try re-flashing the OTA again without wipe but to be honest you would be better off doing a full wipe and the other steps as the poster above recommended.
It should be fine if you are in recovery and can reflash.

Hi. Yes I tried to reinstall the latest droid 4.0.3 (what I installed today once) but I cannot:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot...
E: error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
So if this is not working. I have to full wipe and install everything again right?

Edit: I even dont know my google account name. Oh damn. I did syncronise my adressbook but now I cant get them back. I there a way to find out my account name on the pc?

Try a full wipe and see if it works but to be honest i think suksit has hit the nail on the head with his post. you loaded the recovery into the boot partition.re flashing stock 2.3.6 could be the answer.

how did you do that?
Well, goto the posted page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664

Then look at the Full Roms (not the incremental updates), search your Google Nexus s (mine was the european version 9023) and then the Android version you want to have. I downloaded the newest: Android 4.0.3/IML74K/XXKI1 Radio/KL1 Bootloader. There is everything, including the bootloader (thats what I need). Put the .zip on your phone, reboot start recovery mode and select the zip in recovery mode and install. Thats it.
