Just me?Just happened to me today. Just reading through this thread yo should we do a class action or something...
Tried everything except battery drain... Which I am attempting right now... This is ridiculous!!!
I updated the phone as you suggested @kingwicked . At first nothing changed - screen did not light up. But then a couple of days later it started working and has worked well over the last 6 months.this happened wih me on android 10. i updated via dex to ho in recovery and then via odin immediately. And never again happened on Android 11.
Congrats , thats what happen on Android 10 with me, since my phone started working its been 2 years almost not even a single time it has happened again Thank God.I updated the phone as you suggested @kingwicked . So if someone is stuck in this situation in Android 10, UPDATE YOUR PHONE ASAP.
Wonder what crashed it?Congrats , thats what happen on Android 10 with me, since my phone started working its been 2 years almost not even a single time it has happened again Thank God.![]()
As per my findings mentioned in previous posts most likely it was the bad firmware of camera module on Android version 10. As soon as i updated to A11 never happened again. Probably an issue with default camera app on Android 10.Wonder what crashed it?
A Samsung update? 3rd party app?
Lol, a time bomb?
Meh, another reason to use the N10+...
I registered here just to say "Thank you" OP. The option with clicking the camera app instantly fixed the BSoD for me. The same scenario done as in video (even with the fridge). All the steps with dex and "link to windows" done also, nothing helped. But then I found your advice about tapping and closing the camera app via dex. That worked the same moment I opened the camera for the second time. This must be in the official HOWTO list in the manualTHANKS AGAIN!
Hi! This is my fifth day with the black screen on note 20 ultra and i feel exhausted from trying all methods on internet. As i understand you were able to fix it via dex. This might be a stupid question but how did you manage to connect your phone to the pc. I installed dex on my pc and connected the pc with my phone via usb. It keeps saying that im not connected. I can't turn on dex on my phone because of the black screen ( the phone is vibrating btw so it's working ). I will be very grateful if you could explain me the process. Thanks!I am glad my post is still helping people and you got it fixed . I still am using N986B Note 20 Ultra 5G and still working great![]()

Ps: This is happening for the second time. The first time my phone turned on by itself after 16 hours.
Thank you!well i alreadt had all samsung drivers installed on PC. Dex doesnt work if Samsung Smart Switch is installed on pc. I was able to single out that this issue occurs mostly on Android 10.
So i blindly tried to get my phone in Odin mode and flashed Latest Android 11 firmware on the phone which went ok.
Then i connected the phone to pc when it booted up and it connected via dex. Plus i also had a Dex pad which i bought when i had S9 plus phone.
Then i tried opèning camera app by Tapping on place where camera app again and again. The phone came live and its been more than 2 x years my Note 20 Ultra 5G still works absolutely fine and perfect
Thats how i managed to get it working on 2nd or 3rd day. it used to switch on and also recieved phone calls but screen remained black.
ACCORDING TO ME
IT WAS Bad Camera App bug which
was not allowing screen to turn on.
I possibly have the same problem. My SM-N986B/DS is in stock Samsung (Virgin UK, unlocked}. I had the July security update pushed a few days ago. I couldn't update at the time, so postponed it and forgot about it. The phone self updated the other night and I was met with the 'Enter Pin After Restart' after which the installation 'finished' and I fell back asleep. I was met by the 'Black Screen' when I woke up.Hi! This is my fifth day with the black screen on note 20 ultra and i feel exhausted from trying all methods on internet. So far I have:
1, Tried to restart/enter recovery, but no success.
2, Drained battery after which the charging symbol became visible. Charged to 100% and restarted. The phone the once again installed the same update; restarted and finished without a problem. I ran without a problem for about 15 min, then black screen again. Like yours the phone is receiving messages and calls (vibrates), but I can't connect to it.
3, Next I am draining the battery again and will try the above again. Will then try to back up, then either factory reset or go back to previous using Freija/Odin (which I haven't used since my Note4!). Unfortunately I can't custom as my company has a security app that won't work then.
@kingwicked; Is my thinking in the right direction?
I'll return with progress report![]()
Thanks, I'll keep trying. It showed battery 86% so it might be a while until it's discharged.1. Donot try to go to a previous firmware. backward downgrade maynot be possible
if the bootloader also was updated, it will get stuck. This is how it is on new samsung phones.
2. Remember to Go to Recovery you need your phone comnected via USB amd then press volume up volume down and power
button pressed. Once phone vibrates immediately leave buttons and press volume up and power till the time you see
on pc odin app connected.
If you dont have phone connected via usb when trying to get into recovery. it will never go into recovery mode.
I have exactly the same issue. I was typing on whatsapp when suddenly screen get black. Notifications were ok, voice commands too. Touchscreen ok, I could use it normally when using my TV as screen with HDMI cable or with my notebook, when connected to windows or even Dex.
I already flashed fresh stock Android R rom and my display is still dead.
Tried to tap, slap, shake (I can her some noise next to camera module when shaking). I'm draining battery now with some apps that also vibrate phone. Display is still dead.
I live in Manaus/Brazil and repair centers are not working until March 23 because of Sars-CoV2. And my knox is tripped. It would cost a lot If I have to replace display or even the phone, since they probably will say it's no longer covered by warranty.
Were tou opening and closing the camera while mirroring screen? or on blind?
It seems in your case, the display went back to normal as strange as it turned off.
Could you please share the mentioned youtube video?
Hope I have that lucky as well.
