So why is there a 47 page thread in the Nexus 5 forums about the same wakelocks?
B...b...but IT'S SONY'S FAULT!

I've posted lots of examples of other devices with the same problems and still people are determined to blame Sony for it.
First, I do not want to blame either Sony nor Google, I love both and really enjoy products. HOWEVER I gave the point based my own experience.
The reality, in my situation is, if settings or apps are same, play services on XZ will eat battery more then Nexus 5.
Have you compared on two devices, with same settings?

Second, Do not throw search results here as evidence for demonstrated, I can not see any meaning within it.
They said XZ has a problem, You said Nexus 5 have same problem. It is not a solution.
So plz give some details for us to blame on google, at least statistically.

At the end, since now I flashed 10.4, the battery drain is gone. Even with the same version of Play services and location activated, without touch wakelocks. And you still think we should blame on google?

First, you say you don't want to blame Sony. Then why post this -
So it's pointless to say 'fixing Google play services', its more like Sony mass this update up.
Different devices on KitKat suffer the exact same problem. Search results that show other people on forums with different devices having the problem are perfectly valid evidence. Just as valid as any of your posts are in any case. If you want to discount other people's posts, then why should anyone believe yours?

So, having established that, what can we deduce from it? It isn't the OEMs fault, unless Sony is somehow involved in other manufacturers software (apart from submitting patches to the Android project). Common sense.

According to some information I read on pabx's website, the drain is because of a new sensor framework. Reverting back to the old framework stops the drain. I believe / guess that our SoC vendor (Qualcomm) supply binaries like that, so it could be their fault. It seems that many other devices having the problem also use Qualcomm SoCs as well, so it's possible.

There is a permanent solution: root your device,
Download "disable service" from the playstore. Then go to Google play services in this app. Then disable the locationsservices and i also disabled the wearables since i dont use wearables.
Also downloaded greenify and wakelock detector, and xposed +bootmanager/xprivacy.
In 2 months i use this configuration, i never saw a google play services again in my batterystats
Overnight i have only 1-2% Batteryuse, that is in say 8 hours standby. So now when u dont use your phone, it will not consume any battery, i mean 1-2 % in 8 hours means your standbytime is more then 10 days with this solution.. So there is a fix. Gservicefix does nothing at all and a members said already within 3 days the problem is back, so thats not really a solution.
If you do a search here on xda for kitkat battery drain fix there are some posts with screenshots what exactly to disable within gps. Cheers

Simply disabling location reporting / history has the same effect for me. No need to use third party software to disable anything in Google Play Services.

Ive always clicked yes on that option because for some reason my gps was totally screwy. I tried a couple of things to fix it but I also didnt have that "location reporting" option in my native settings. I always kept it off via the google settings app as well all others. Since switching over to bilgerryan's WicKed X GS3 rom, now that option is there but I just checked my gps by itself is working pinpoint. awesome. THX.

I doubt its sonys fault either that or theres a conflict with xperias and kitkat because my brother flashed an unofficial cm 11 rom and has at least 20% drain and hes on locked bootloader I think it has something to do with the kernel the stock sony kernel I experience bad drain like 60% over but it comes and goes I cant solve it

It's a rumour at this point. Nothing has been confirmed by Sony.

What worked for me

Just wanted to share what worked for me. I have been following the advice given on this forum and also on other websites to clean the cache of Google Play Services alternatively to clean all data of it. This was helping me but only for 1-2 days.
What has worked for me (I have now been over a week without the drain) is to clean all data not only for Google Play Services but also fro Google Services Framework.
After this was done I have not experienced issues with battery life. I have Location set to On with High accuracy (Reporting and History turned off though). With 88% of battery I get the estimate of 7 days and 3 hours (10 days 16 hours in Standby mode) with Stamina mode, Low battery mode and Location-based Wi-Fi on.

Since this has helped with my problem with the drain I am sharing it here hoping that it helps some more people too.

Well it is fixed in the next Sony update so hopefully people won't be having to do these temporary fixes much longer. Seems What Google did to fix it in play services fixed it for other phones but not ours, So Sony had to change something in our firmware.

From Sony:
We recently speculated whether the recently certified firmware build number 10.5.1.A.0.283 for the older Xperia Z series would bring Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
Well judging by the leaked screenshot below it appears to be true.
It shows the Xperia Z (C6603) handset running Android 4.4.4 via build number 10.5.1.A.0.283.
The update is expected to land on the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.
We’ll bring you news once it starts to roll.

Sony Xperia Z Kit Kat 4.4.4 Platform update 22-Sep-14 Scheduling Sony have delayed test submission by 2 weeks.

Your source is outdated! Last edited 2 weeks ago. So maybe our update will be sooner :D

Hahaha.. That's why I posted it, hooping just like you to get the update sooner.. But, it is coming ?

I have to say, I've got less drain since I got the Ultimate PureXZ on my mob.
To be continued..

As drastic as this sounds nothing worked for me that was suggested on the internet and the only way I could get rid of it was to unlock the bootloader root the phone and install pac man rom.

First phone I ever rooted as well. Sony should have tested kitkat 4.4.2 better IMO.
