Fixing NT stuck with CWM, restore / update won't work

I need your help. I'm close to giving up and throwing my NT away if there's no way to have my issue fixed :( I'm not a technology savvy person, I just follow youtube videos for updates and even though I try to be patient with all the instructions around, I just couldn't because I am using a mac and most of the fixes are in windows :(

Anyway. I followed xda's instructions in updating to CM7. I encountered an error in CWM saying unable to mount sdcard android_secure. I didn't know what to do, so I went to different website as to how this fixed. I saw someone saying "format system" so I did. I rebooted the tablet, then I was back on the CWM screen again. Unfortunately, I tried numerous times to click "install zip from sdcard" and I couldn't find the file for the CM7 zip file so I chose "choose zip from sdcard". And that's where I'm stuck right now. I am using a MAC laptop, I tried to do the ubuntu thing but when i saw that i needed to install a .exe file, I stopped reading it. Is there a way to have my tablet fixed? I wasn't able to backup my files before I decided to restore to factory settings. please help!
Hi, if you format system that's OK but after that there won't be any Operative system installed.

You're stuck in the way that you can't find the CM7 .zip? or that it doesn't let you install (errors showing up)?

By formatting system shouldn't brick your tablet but if you formatted anything else than system, data, cache, sdcard then that's another story and you'll have to restore your partitions.

You can Google: how to burn an image to a sdcard in MAC and use that method to burn any image without the need of .exe to un-brick your device.

Burn term is used to say record a file(s) into a storage device like cd, sdcards, usb flash memory, etc.

In Android, well linux operative systems in general an image is a file with the extension .img that you can "burn" into a micro sdcard to make it bootable with an operative system (Android, Ubuntu, etc) or other stuff like scripts to un-brick, repartition your device for example.

I'm not familiar with MAC but i know that dd command is the same for linux, windows and MAC.

Using your same example: dd if=NameOfNookieFroYoImage of=/dev/disk# bs=1m

NameOfNookieFroYoImage: will be the complete path to the file with the .img extension that you want to "burn" into your micro sdcard.

/dev/disk#: will be the path of your mounted micro sdcard. ** Pease be carefull in this part because if you instead of your micro sdcard put your hard drive you will be screwed. **

Make sure to format your micro sdcard before burn an image into it.

i cant download the parted binary.
parted binary is already in the file system for nook tablet. just access it through adb. i don't remember exactly which folder its in but its there somewhere.... start looking in the system folder and work your way there.

its good to know basic linux commands for this.

hello again.. i haven't gone through the step you just provided but i forgot to mention that i deleted the cache in cwm ( as well as delvik cache). does this mean that i need to follow a different step? i will also try this in windows (last resort) if i'm having troubles following the instructions for mac.

hello, i still cannot do this. i'm attaching a screenshot of my desktop as well as my terminal window. please help :( as you can see, it's still giving me an error that says no such file discovery. the .img file is on the desktop just below the terminal window. i don't know why it can't see it.

You need to specify the FULL path specification to the files, such as..

/folder1/folder2/folder3/.../NameOfNookieFroYoImage

It is not finding the file because it is looking in whatever is the current folder (and the folders in the path), and that is not where the image is located.

thanks for your fast reply. i was able to do this and i was successful in burning the image to my sdcard. i plugged in the sdcard back and waited for about 4 minutes to make sure it'll be copied to the device. after waiting, i turned off the tablet, removed the sdcard and then opened the tablet but it's stuck in the read forever mode for about 20 minutes. i turned it off again, plugged the sdcard back, then waited for it to boot and it's stuck in read forever mode again. tried to boot to cwm mode, cwm mode is gone. i am guessing that i did something to the nook's partition, or somehow the stock got damaged or deleted. what should i do at this point? i feel that i'm finally making progress. except that i can see most instructions in windows again. i tried to follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570022

however when i dragged the files into my sdcard, it says not enough space! how can it be when my sdcard is 16GB? it says only 40MB left. that's weird. i opened the sdcard and it only has 5 files i think in there (the files that i burned the img file into).

This is getting beyond me to figure out.

If you are sure the "of=" (output file) specification pointed to the sd card device and not the internal, then you should not have done anything that damaged the internal ROM.

your sdcard was partitioned to be small because you burned an image to it. you can restore it later on.

what image did you burn to your sdcard? a bootable cwm recovery? usually in order to boot from sdcard, you need to have the tablet off, insert the sdcard and plug in the usb cable thats attached to the ac adapter. usually that will turn on the tablet and make it boot from sd card. if it doesn't boot from sdcard then you must have incorrectly burned your sdcard.

hope this helps. your main goal right now should be to get into cwm recovery, but after messing around with it so much, your problems might have gotten worse than they were before...

EDIT: after looking at your initial post about your problem, it looks like you may have had a faulty sdcard. you said that android secure could not be read and the fact that you couldn't install from a zip furthers that theory. however in cwm there are two different types of install from zip, one from an external storage and one from internal storage. it looks like you chose the one from internal storage at first and then chose the one with external storage...

i was also thinking about my sdcard being faulty, but then i found a way to it using windows (view hidden folders) and found a chunk of my old files there so i deleted it and my sdcard is back to its original size. the image that i used came from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553 as recommended by lavero.burgos would you recommend me following the instructions for restoring the internal partitions of my tab? do you think my tablet can still be fixed or has it really been completely bricked?

by the way i forgot to mention that my internal storage for nooktablet does not appear on the desktop anymore as opposed to having 2 drives when it was still working (the sdcard storage being the other). so that's why i assumed that i damaged the partition of my tablet.

Update: well my sdcard stopped working completely after plugging it back to my mac. i dont want to keep on troubleshooting any further. It's too much trouble and confusing.i give up. If anyone wants this tablet just send me an email, provided u can fix it so it'll be a give away. Only 4mos used. thing is i live in the philippines so you need to shoulder the shipping and handling costs. Selling this dirt cheap, instead of throwing this directly in my trash. Thanks anyway to those who attempted to help.

You may try posting this question in the Nexus forum. You probably would get a better reply. This is a nook tablet forum.

I need help with my nook tablet please

I have a 16g Nook tablet. This is where I'm at with it. I can use an sd card and boot into cwm. I can also boot from sd card and run cm7, but it is terribly slow and very buggy, even with a new 8gb class 6 sd card. I believe the partitions are messed up and have to be fixed. I can get my computer to see "Nook Tablet /!\" but once I install the drivers (I have installed the older ones and the newer ones with the same result) "Nook Tablet" goes away and "Android Phone" pops up and under this heading is listed "Android Composite ADB Interface". This is all done after clearing all the usb mass storage and such devices using USBDview. By the way this is being done while the tablet is in CWM so I can't check or uncheck USB debugging. Can someone please help me with this? Tell me what I should do and how to do it. I was going to do what it says in the first step of this thread, but don't know how to use DOS very well. Any help would be much appreciated.

One more thing, what its doing when trying to boot up is "N" screen then "Please dont turn off device..." then the red exclamation point screen saying to try again or contact customer service.
