Flash Bell Atrix Firmware on at&t Atrix to Remove Restrictions?

Im interested in getting the atrix from att, however I know of the issue where custom ROMS may never happen for this phone because of the locked bootloader.

Since att has locked down the mobile hotspot app to verify you have a tethering plan (I have unlimited data) and since they also disable the option to install non market apps, would it be possible to flash the firmware from the Bell version of the atrix when it is released in a few days onto the att version? The only reason i think this would work is because technically it is still an official ROM, just for a different region. Does anyone know if this will work? This will probably be the deciding factor in whether I decide to get this phone...

any reason why you do not want to root? it only takes one click of the rooting program and you can do both of what you want (tether and sideload). There's really no harm in it, plus the rooting program lets you unroot if needed. clean simple. way safer than trying to flash a rom meant for a different region that could possibly brick your device.

will superone click root put the option to install non market apps back in the phone settings or do you still need to sideload the apks? the only thing i have heard with getting around the tethering restriction was to create a new apn which many people have said is unreliable...

There is an option after rooting to make the phone natively install non-market apps.

To install non-market apps is what sideloading means. you do via other sources such as the sdcard, from email, or adb if you want. you dont need an option in settings to allow you to do this. the root program will set it up for you if you select it after you are done rooting.

For tethering, it will depend on the APN set. so even if you install bell's rom, you still need to setup apn's to access at&t's network, the same apn settings you are gonna use anyways.

The one advantage would be that upload speeds (hopefully) won't be capped on the Bell version as they are on the AT&T versions.

I hope just because it is still an official firmware there is some way to trick the phone into flashing it. I am very familiar with HTC phones and on those all you need to do is remove the CID (Carrier Identification) protection to flash any official (not custom) ROMS from another carrier or region. Does anyone know if Moto phones have something similar to this?

A similar thing with my OLD Nokia E63 running symbian.. all I had to do was change something called a Product Code to one of a different carrier/region and then run nokia's updater which would then flash that carrier's/region's FW onto my phone, I know android is different as well as different brands, but if HTC and Nokia have a hidden backdoor, who's saying moto doesn't? ;)
