Hey guys,

I managed to get a dual Sim Note 7 from Hong Kong which would not charge anymore and couldnt be downgraded through odin anymore to charge again using a combination of the oldest TGY firmware that I could find together with a custom Kernel taken from a chinese Rom for that variant.

I extracted the /system partition directly from the odin package and then installed that to the phone with TWRP, together with that chinese kernel which had charging fixed.

So far so good - phone would boot, charge and run fine actually. But I had problems to connect to a Wifi or rather lost connection over and over again, so I thought I might just have to try another modem.

I took the modem-part (CP) from the TGY firmware and flashed that through odin, which went fine actually, but since then the phone no longer boots up. I can still access TWRP and flash stuff with DD though.

I tried different modems from different roms, but i fear the phone had an update installed previously which is not available on the internet..

Please help me to get this thing up and running again. As explained i can access twrp and theoretically can DD flash everything from there, but I need a list which file belongs to which partition. On some its obvious, but on others unfortunately not.

Or do you maybe have another idea how to get this thing running again? What could be the cause that the phone no longer boots just after flashing the modem part?

Do I maybe just have to clear modemst1 and modemst2 partitions?

Need some expert help here please.

clearing modemst1 and modemst2 didnt help.. still bootlooping. Its stuck at the Galaxy Note 7 logo goes black and back to that. But thank god the twrp boots fine and it even charges in there still.

Hello. What is your note 7 model? You need to install the previous stock firmware that was in the phone. Then install twrp, then your custom kernel. That's all ?

ohh forgot to say - its a N9300 (hongkong model with qualcomm cpu).

Unfortunately I do not know which is the stock firmware for this thing.

I already downloaded 2 firmwares (the oldest and the second most recent) and tried to flash those but odin would fail. Now over the weekend im downloading the latest Firmware I found - unfortunately it takes like 10 hours per firmware download - they are not available at sammobile.. =/

I hope the phone takes that rom finally but I fear it might have an even newer firmware installed previously that disabled charging completely and that is not available online.

When I used "getprop" to see bootloader version of the phone that version shown there was newer than all the roms I could find.

---

When that latest rom I'm currently downloading wont stick on the phone with odin i might have to try to directly dd-fflash stuff in twrp .. not much to lose I guess. Or I will have to dig reeeaaaal hard to find the firmware that was on there.

Kies or Smart-Switch do not restore note 7s do they?

Samsung removed Smart Switch support for Note 7. All you need it's the firmware that was previously in your note 7. Good luck to find it if it's the last one...

I keep getting the "odin fail (auth)" message when trying to flash - thats the "downgrade block" isnt it? Or could it also be the connection? The cable is kinda ****ty which I have...

Just wondering if it makes sense to buy and try another cable or if its definitely the downgrade block with the odin fail auth msg?

Open odin. Put the 4 files then connect your phone on download mode to usb. Try the last version of odin 3.12.5

Normal csc to reset completely your phone

still failing - I think there was an even newer version installed on this thing - and I cannot find it online.

---

I guess this could maybe be fixed with TWRP and flashing partitions directly there with dd to prevent the odin downgrade block... but thats kinda dangerous =/

Man fk this i shouldve just left the modem alone - but usually flashing modems dont cause bootloops - really BS.

Authenticate fail is not the downgrade problem. When it fails in downgrade process, you see red line in the phone "check Rev sw failed, binary..."

N9300ZHU3BQB1 is the firmware, but it is nowhere to be found for free. I finally got it through that link above (the one benyou54 posted). I managed to contact the guy from that thread but I had to pay 25$ to be able to download it. But the guy was actually pretty cool - first he wanted me to sign up for an account on that site for 130$ though - but I just needed that one firmware and its a friends phone so I wasnt willing to sign up for just one damn firmware lol.

But thank god this piece of **** note 7 would take it and boot again finally - without that firmware it would have probably been a brick or I wouldve needed to be super brave and overwrite partitions by hand with TWRP.

Man man - good were those days where you could just up and downgrade things just as you liked.... fk this downgrade blocks - if i want to be forced into **** i'd buy apple...

---

Now im back to square one with this note 7 dual sim. I tried just flashing TWRP and the modified kernel I had from the chinese custom rom I had found but it would not boot - because of "old kernel".

I hope I can get it to run with the kernel by extracting the system partition from an older rom to the system directly and then manually flashing csc and kernel over too. (this kinda worked the first time - before i decided to downgrade the modem which made the thing bootloop).

Hey zroice, did you have any luck with restoring the note 7 software/firmware to where you can charge it again? I have a tmobile note 7 and accidentally updated to where it wont charge due to the popup that disables charging. I have to keep the phone plugged in so it wont drain.

Any chance you can provide a simple walkthrough of how to get it to charge again for someone who is far from knowledgeable on this kind of stuff?

In the meantime, can anyone recommend a app that can help me back up my note 7 since Samsung does let note 7 users install smart switch?

Thanks in advance
