I've been wondering the same thing for a while..none of the devs are removing it from roms which leads be to believe it's needed for something. Here's what I've found on it so far...

Only really helpful info so far: There's a thread on Android Central regarding this on the 1X. Apparently, there is no solid explanation for it. Seems very suspicious to me. Replacement for CarrierIQ maybe?? Here's the link > http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-x/172870-suspicious-pre-installed-apps.html

Codes to enable/disable Flexnet: Found these in the 1X section...not sure if they work on the 1S. Here's a link to the original thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683634
UNKNOWN CODES
BE CAREFUL WITH THEM!
*#*#36666#*#* = starts FlexNet Mode | Don't know what it is ... | Discussion about flex net mode: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc...lled-apps.html | So FlexNet may be a substitute for CarrierIQ ..
*#*#7669633#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#361066#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#361166#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#362066#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#366633#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#368866#*#* = FlexNet related
*#*#3688633#*#* = FlexNet related

In the play store, there is a Flexnet app that can be downloaded. It appears to be a niche market app for those in the manufacturing and distribution industries. Here's a link to the description: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apriso.flexnet&hl=en

On Windows PCs: FLEXnet is a program that allows applications like Alldata to communicate with the internet.

So yeah that's what I've dug up. Any other info would be helpful, but I would like to just remove it completely since it is using resources (albeit not much) and until I know what it does is probably unwanted.

I searched for Flexnet, ended up here.. its in the Sensation PKMN ROM also.
I share same feelings, it should be removed..

Could this be the alternate CarrierIQ I wonder..:(

Lets see how this progresses..

Disabled it on mine, no ill effects as yet..

Peace..

HOS has carrier IQ installed, so it's not that (look for apps starting with IQ in /system/app). I wonder if it's similar to the recently discovered app on Moto phones that ring home with any changes to system files at each boot?

Right,

I was just poking around in my PC and found a directory in C:\users\appdata\roaming called FLEXnet!!! AND another in ProgramData both of which are usually hidden. Here is the contents of C:\Users\doombadger\AppData\Roaming\FLEXnet\Connect\Database

There was a separate directory called database which was empty. All have now been deleted.

Hope this helps shed some light guys.
