a few things put a damper on this purchase for me:
1. The screen is mediocre. It isn't awful, but it is not great either. I should note that I'm extremely picky about displays in general though. Mediocre black levels, seemingly sluggish response time (things look "shimmery" when scrolling"), and while it beats the ipad at pixel density, I still want more. At least the viewing angles are good (unlike my wife's ipod touch 4th gen) and there is no backlight leakage (unlike my droidx) and there is no pentile subpixel array (like my incredible and fascinate)
2. Video decoding issues, and speed in general. I'm not sure what I expected from tegra2, but it was more than this. If what everyone is saying is true and playing the hd content I already have isn't gonna work, then that is a HUGE disappointment for the xoom. That was a big deal for me. I'm hoping that once the guys at PLEX get it sorted out for the xoom I will be back in business. Many websites really seem to chug which is also kind of a big deal.
3. It is hefty and sharp! Wow those front edges really dig into your palms! Give me a lighter plastic tablet any day. I'm now looking forward to samsung's tab because of this.
Minor stuff:
4. crummy flimsy charger. Charges fast, but what a terrible little connector, and what a pain not to be able to charge by usb.
5. front camera horrible quality in preview mode. I was shocked later when i reviewed the stills i took from the front camera and they were actually ok. Why does it look so horrendous in the viewfinder?
All in all, i really like honeycomb. I'm really excited for what kind of apps we are going to get. But I'm getting the feeling that we aren't going to see many early adopters for the xoom, and that by the time we really get our software together, the second generation of tablets will blow this away. I'm not returning my xoom, but I am anticipating putting it up for sale as soon as we get an alternative.
