For those that have a XOOM in hand, what don't you like?

my gripes software wise

You tube quality is horrible only has HQ setting and no HD 480/720 or 1080 settings

Scrolling in browser is choppy and goes blank if scrolled too fast

Can't delete music from default app without 3rd part app no equalizer or any options whatsoever

Android market isn't in catagories for newest top free or top paid

No easy way to close running apps without going to settings and manage apps
And only 5 apps shown in recent and 7 in portrait mode non scrollable

Gallery app needs improvement no stacks preview pinch zoom lags

Something is also wrong with the cursed it when you tap in an area to edit text it goes to a differ ant area

1 more major thing i hate is auto rotation is sooo slow and when I show friends with the I pad its embarrassing. If you turn animations to some it rotates quick but you don't get the cool rotate annimation

Speaker placement - sound out the back (sides would have been much better)

No charge through USB, that charger pin is gonna be the first thing to break for people and crap now it cannot be charged 'anywhere' via usb

Buggy software, especially Market is a little (sometimes a lot) wonky.

Gallery crop is almost un-usable, OMG who tested this?

Browser really hangs up on a lot of sites, much less compatible than my phone browser

Screen is disappointly... average. Spoiled by my Samsung Vibrant

Bezel edge is so small I'm constantly triggering application activity accidently. Hoping a case will solve this.

Screen smudging is crazy! so here comes a screen protector, which to me is like having to wear a rubber for sex... often needed but never as good.

Paranoid about HD playback complaints but I reencode as a habbit anyway, not sure highest settings people are trying to get to are really noticable on this form factor anyway so hoping I can get to a good middle ground.

I will give it a shot and report back

If you are converting them anyway, try converting them to baseline profile 720p. The file might be massive, but the xoom should play it.

https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?t=20140&p=92924

That is discussing the g-tablet, which uses the same Tegra 2.

Basically you are going to have to create some profile that encodes with weird and specific parameters that the Tegra 2 can decode.
Thanks for pointing me here. I will give it a shot and report back. I know re-encoding isn't the most convenient way to deal with videos, but because I spend so much time on the road, maximizing capacity is more important to me. I have a script that does the bulk of it automatically through Handbrake, so if I find settings that work, I probably won't care what they are.

Video is disappointing
I hate the tiny volume buttons, do I really need to grow nails just to adjust my volume?
Why is the power button on the back?
smudge magnet front & back
Gingerbread still has a way to go, performance when rotating the device is sluggish at best
Auto dim, is useless

Even with these gripes, I don't regret my purchase since it is a 1st generation device.

I've played with mine when I can since launch day, considering I've been at work most of the time. I'm pretty certain this is going to be returned, because my biggest complaints are hardware, not software problems.

-Speakers on the back. I tried using Gchat with my wife at work on Thursday and I couldn't hear her but the sound was shooting out of my office. That made me realize I'd have to wear headphones to use the sound on this for anything.

-Power button on the back. It's a brilliant idea when you're holding the device, when I set it flat on the table and use it while I'm eating or otherwise using my hands, I have to pick it up to turn it back on if it goes to standby. Also, the number 1 accessory I wanted is a folio case, but I don't see how that would work with the button on the back.

-Charging. I really wish it had USB charging. Is there not something they could have done with USB 3? As I understand it and have noticed from my wife's new Dell, USB 3 supplies a considerable amount of power.

-Web browsing. I intended this to be my primary use, but I can seldom get it to load websites. I've tried stock browser and Dolphin HD. Speedtest shows it connected with 60ms ping, 11mb/s down, and 1.5mb/s up, but webpages timeout half the time. I understand the bugginess in a new OS, but this is the one thing I'd expect them to get right.

-Screen. Others complain about the brightness or pixel density, but it looks fine to me. I turned the brightness to 100% and it looks good and battery is still fine. My complaint is that if I put the Xoom in portrait mode on a white screen, I notice that the side that is normally the bottom (where charger is) fades into slightly darker pixels. It's like those pixels aren't as well lit and Moto didn't notice. While some people might not notice this, I did and now it drives me crazy. I've seen a few others mention it, so I don't know if it's only my screen or if it's a defect on all devices, but it's just more evidence that the hardware was rushed to market.

Given all of that, it's still a tough decision to return it, because I'm in love with Honeycomb and having a tablet more than I dislike the Xoom. The software, bugs and all, makes up for the hardware being a disaster.

Now I have to decide which device I want in the near future. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is out because I want USB. I'm considering the Toshiba Tablet because it looks pretty awesome. The only downside is that it's wifi. I didn't think I would use 3g/4g, but when I've used my Xoom at work this week, tethered to my N1 wifi, I was thinking how slow it was and 4g internet would be worth $20 a month to have 24/7 access on it.

So, those are my thoughts after 2 days.

Engadget's review said the volume buttons would get stuck from time to time. Also said the power button got stuck, forcing a shutdown.

Please compare and contrast with your iPad. Does the pixel density look worse? Have you tried reading a book on it? Have you seen it in direct sunlight (some reviews say it's completely unusable in direct sunlight)? Are the speakers bad, being on the back side and all?
Engadget are Apple ass clowns.

They aren't Apple biased just because it's Apple. Their reviews, especially Josh's, weigh user experience more than things like unlocked boot loaders and ability to load a custom rom. You can't argue that Apple devices provide a much better user experience to your average consumer. That's why they rate high. Josh gave the Motorola Atrix a 9, the same rating as the iPhone 4.

All your comments are personal preference, and I respect that. However, regarding web browsing, that has been a hugely positive surprise for me, as it literally blows my iPad out of the water. Are you sure the XOOM is interacting with your wireless router properly?

Having used the xoom for a while I think the thing I like least about the xoom is the new home screen. The dead space at the ends of the long direction is annoying. I would like adw launcher ex for the tablet. I have not used a dock for a month or so so I don't miss that. I do miss binding to swipe up and down though. The app button way up the top is a bit awkward. Overall it has some nice features and glitz but given the real estate I would like gestures or other methodology to allow for space indepemdent use. The expeimental menu in the browser is an example. It allows me to use menu functions without having to reach.

Other than that my gripes are minor. No way that i can figure to force the keyboard open. The keyboard in landscape is too wide to thumb type easily. And finally I am not fond of the market being locked in landscape.

That's about it for now. The tablet form factor in general is one I am a bit skeptical on but I will try and embrace it and see where it leads.

I considered that as a possibility, do you have any suggestions? It's like a crap shoot whether any given webpage (even using the Android UA) will load or just time out. I've been using my Nexus One on my wife for almost a year and not had this problem.

I can promise you my experience is nothing like that. The browser has been awesome for me except some lag typing text on some sites including this one. But it is not so bad I can't use it. I would suggest you take your tablet to Starbucks or a friends that has a different router and see if you get the same result. That will at least tell you if it is something with your router.

I hate the default font and cant find how to change it.
I wish it had nfc support (that will be big soon especially since banks are testing it). But my next phone will support it so i guess i can live without.

I want more apps but when the android (phone) market was launched it did not have many.....but now there are so many i dont even miss my iPhone.

I hope the create more productivity apps and educational games/software.
I use my xoom already for email (connected to exchange) but my daughter will use it for reading childrens books etc.
The UI still does not have the intuitive experience of ios....something i hope they fix soon.

Battery life and speed of the device is really great.

I had the same problem when tethered to my N1 wifi, but I dismissed it as a 3g problem. Does the same thing on my router's 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. Maybe I got a dud.

Or maybe it is the sites you are visiting. Are you using multiple tabs? Start by only using one. If it still lags, post the site having the issue and I can test it here. But please let me know the exact page causing the issue.

You can do desktop mode. Open browser and put about:debug as the URL. It adds extra settings.

I wish it had a standard USB. Other than that, I love it.

Oh and I wish the browser had tablet and desktop mode like the GTablet.
