I have the opposite problem with HDR and huawei's Camera app..

Even if i turn off AI, sometimes HDR is enabled. If I want to force disable HDR, I have to use the 'Pro' mode.

I just bought this phone today and had I known I can't have HDR always on with every quick shot I take I wouldn't have bought it. No ****.

And no it's not "so simple" to go through menus every time I open the camera. Whoever said that I slap you with my thong (flip flop). And yes "we" enlightened ones *do* want HDR auto/on/off option.

How do you know when HDR is enabled? I don't remember seeing anything on-screen saying it was enabled in auto mode, only when chosen from "More"

Sold it mainly for this reason and also the awful color science behind this stupid RYYB sensor.

If someone can even find a way to create a camera shortcut that goes straight to HDR instead of manually chasing it, it would be great.

Closest I have come is through Nova launcher, once you have the camera icon on home page, long click it and you have 4 options that you can place as shortcuts of your setting by dragging it to your home screen...aperture, moving pic, video and selfie.

If anyone has a workaround to add HDR to this long press, it would be highly appreciated!

Would like this too, I've just spent the last 30 mins trying different methods but none worked, I guess putting a request into Nova Launcher dev to either add HDR to the quick choice list on long press, or allow us to edit that list might do it, but would take a while for an update if he agreed

There is also the Long press > Edit on the camera icon, then choose what "Swipe Action" does, but again there is nothing in the lists for camera modes, just camera itself

Another option would be some activity shortcut app that lets you pick HDR option and place a desktop shortcut for it. I've tried a couple and couldn't figure out a way....If anyone else can, would be a big help.

Yea I tried that too, I emailed Nova Launcher dev and he said it depends on the camera app which shortcuts you can create, the ones available in NL are the same ones available doing the same thing on the stock EMUI launcher, so I guess it is not possible

-------From Nova dev-------

Hello,

App shortcuts that you get on long pressing an icon is not controlled by the launcher in any way. This is mentioned in our FAQ's which you can access via Nova Settings -> FAQ's. That's up to each individual app.

I think that HDR is on when you're taking a picture and it says on display "hold your phone" (or something like that because my phone is in pt-br and idk what says in english)

That usually happens when taking a photo in low light, not sure if that is HDR though, I think it is more for keeping the shutter open longer to allow more light in

If you look at the (i) info on the photo, there is a [HDR] logo on the photos where HDR was used, but not when it says "Sharpening, Please steady your device" But I could be wrong, there is not much information for anything the camera does automatically

Someone on the P20 forum saying it is combining the Monochrome sensor with the main sensor to increase detail

I never understood why Huawei cnt simply put HDR switch on main screen, why its separate mode. Its very stupid imho, unlike every other phone.

Anyway, on my p30 pro I think HDR mode does not even work lol - or AI is super clever and auto turns it on/off. Because I was NEVER been able to see such differences on photos taken with or without HDR as OP photos.

I am whining about this exact topic. And yes WE want a default HDR mode, or at least a quick one touch HDR mode on. ...Mr. Huawei are you reading this? c'mon man.
