Why dont you simply try the registry hack and see what it says then?
I did run the registry hack, then rebooted, and Geforce Experience still says not compatible.

Registry hack should work, make sure you have the latest Nvidia beta drivers.
I haven't tried the latest BETAs. Will have to do that. Will hopefully pick up a Shield this afternoon...

With the registry hack Geforce Experience won't change. It will just work (or not work if you are unlucky). but I think someone with a 650M got it to work (I have 750m). So it *should* work for you.

I see...thank you. Well wish me luck. I'll be heading out in an hour to pick it up.

Hey, got the Shield. With the applied registry hack, I rebooted, and then I loaded up the streaming on the Shield, and it says "No available GeForce GTX PCs found."

Any suggestions?

I get this sometimes. Make sure everything is updated. Reboot the PC.
OK I got it working, just once. Now, I can't get it working at all. I try and load Steam and it says "Launching Steam" and nothing happens. I can't load games individually. I literally can't get anything to connect/stream anymore.

Any suggestions? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest BETA drivers, and the latest BETA Steam. Help!

Sometimes it gets screwy for me. I try to remove the computer on the Shield. Reconnect the PC. Try Dr opting the PC and Shield.

OK, I removed the computer on Shield. And now after re-adding it, it says "No supported PC Games available."
Hmm thats strange. So I am not sure what version of Steam I have. I am not sure if its the Beta or not.

Also check the Streaming tab in Geforce Experience and make sure the checkbox is checked.

I have no idea what happened, but it started working again.

I have to say, after streaming a bunch of games, the Shield just isn't for me. The compression artifacts aren't pretty, the input lag is really obvious (to me), and the screen is just a little too small. And that doesn't even touch on the layout of the analog sticks which is just plain awkward. I'm a 360-controller person, so the awkwardness of the lower and sunk analog sticks on the Shield just really makes life hard.

So, thank you for all the help, but I'll go back to my Vita/consoles/PC.

Yeah I prefer the 360 controller layout of the analog sticks. I actually think it would work better give the size of the device. But from a design perspective, I guess it makes sense to have them on the bottom and recessed more so they clear the screen. But coming from using a PS3 controller its not too bad. I don't get too many artifacts, maybe its my router, I am using am Asus N65R. Haven't had much input lag and I have been playing some fighting games too.

The router isn't the issue. It's an AC router (Apple Time Capsule 2013). It's just the nature of streaming .h264. And the input lag will be bothersome depending on the person playing. I notice it easily. Others may not. Just how it goes..

Still, was fun to check it out. And yes, the analog locations I'm sure is to do with the screen closing well. It's a shame, but then it's a flawed design, sadly.

Next time, Nvidia. Next time.

I dint have any issues with control latency, holding the shield up to my pc's screen and pressing buttons, comparing them to the monitor, there is less than a tenth of a second in video lag and no control lag. I tested with an xbox controller as well and there were no differences in speed. Perhaps you are too far away from your router, also the shield does not support AC, it supports N, so if your router does not support N 5ghz then it will have to use the 2.4ghz band, and it is too slow.

I am using a dual band wireless N N900 model router.

Almost But not quite

I've been looking into this and while this didn't work for me on my 650M, it may circumvent your CPU problem. I've attached a zip with reg file inside for you to try. This disables the compatibility checks in NvStreamSvc.exe.

I've got a larger writeup of my findings in the thread: "A quest to stream from mobile Kepler" (admittedly I didn't see this thread before posting mine).

Good luck!

EDIT: You'll need to either restart the "NVIDIA Streamer Service" in services.msc or just reboot your machine after applying the reg file for the changes to take effect. This won't change what GFE says about your configuration, but GFE isn't the one actually doing the compatibility checks for real ;)
Using the regedit workaround I managed to get my 765M to stream to my shield... However I ran into a problem where only Steam shows up and when clicked it loads the "Cannot launch Steam." error. Reset in the streaming tab doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Do i need a beta version of steam for streaming to work? my pc is off for repairs but Im just checking.

Also I tried a bunch of games with splashtop THD from my 560m There is 0 artifact the quality is astounding. In Max payne 3 you can even see every pixel of body hair, its that clear.
Lag is 0 too well yes maybe there is a 10th of a second its pretty much impossible to notice unless your a hardcore pc gamer. all home consoles I think have some sort of input lag in fps games to compensate for controllers.

but the shields screen is too small and its a tad heavy which is a flaw.

I think its definitely your router or are you sure your streaming at 720p?
Also if you have any sort of minuscule stutter on your pc with regards to Vsync or Mouse smoothing you will notice lag, as long as its perfectly smooth on your pc it should stream smoothly.

680M

I have a 680M and was hoping Nvidia had gotten around to getting this card to work with Shield streaming but still no luck. Anybody else get the regedit route to work with these cards yet?

It's not really specific to your card, but to the configuration of the card (read: whether it has Optimus or not). The 680M definitely has the hardware to do streaming, but it only works if the computer doesn't have Optimus.
