newbkilla,

Thx for takin the time to put the video together. Good job on it.
According to what i saw that Odin flashed with kk4 and the i9000 firmware, they were successful flashes of the whole firmwares.

A few things i noticed that when u were trying to get into recovery on kk4 and with the i9000 firmware is that u gotta release the volume button(s).
If u r on kk4, pull the battery, replace it, hold volume up & volume down & power button together until u see the 1st att screen and then release All 3 buttons. Does that give ya recovery?
On i9000 firmware, pull battery, replace, hold power button and volume up together, release Both buttons after the i9000 screen. Does that give u recovery ?

(side note...see ur sportin the old silver speaker mod ...that was one funny thread)

I've a suggestion visit TRusselo's page, he has all the Canadian Odin one clicks, with uxkh2 bootloaders, that's what I have, but it does need it's own param.lfs file(which is also in .tar format) which is the att screen. you could try the uxkh2 bootloaders and seeing where that gets you if any, His Odin downloads come with a .512pit file as well. dunno if any of this will help your haunted Cappy, but it should give you some more tools to help in the battle.

Unintentionally, I found his page not knowing that's whose thread that was... lol. So anyways, I proceed to install the 2.1.1 version. ---> Works. yay, okay less bloatware. I try 2.2 oneclick, stuck at first screen like usual, no recovery. I then tried 2.3.3 w/ BL, nope stuck again.

newbkilla,
After u flash the kk4 odin that i put together...when it finishes the flash, it should display info on ur captivate about the install of the firmware. If ya want and when ya have time, can u video that and just post here in this thread all that it says. I say video it just because the words will go by fast and with the video u can pause it and see what it says and then post. I'm curious as to what it says on ur phone because that may give an insight into whats goin on after the install of kk4.
Thx.

Great video! Couldn't have asked for much better.

I did notice one thing, and maybe it won't change much but when you flash, you don't re-partition. I couldn't see which version of Odin you used to flash M9 but I *believe* a re-partition is needed coming from stock 2.1 (JF6). That would be done by having the .pit file (usually comes with the Odin zip) in the PIT section (it should auto-check re-partition as you add it).

The one click Odin re-partition on their on so perhaps it won't change anything if you do it with M9 seeing as both are GB version.

I'm curious about 4-2ndtwin idea though, perhaps it will bring some insight! :good:

When the kk4 Odin one click is finished flashin to ur phone, immediately look at ur phone and there should be short phrases on ur phone explaining about the install before it goes to the att screen...

Thx again for workin with us here by making the video.

So, this answers one big question of the kk4 flash...
Odin shows success, but lookin at this video, the kk4 firmware is Not getting installed on ur phone. As to the other question of why...well i don't know. But at least i can see that it is Not gettin installed.
Ur phone would normally display that it is doing --- "wipe data, wipe dbdata, wipe cache, finding update package, opening update package, installing update package..." and etc. Not necessarily in that order (can't remember exactly), but u get the point.
Anyway thx again for the video. Wish i knew the answer to ur phone's problem.

By the way, (cant remember if u have said) but have u tried a different micro usb/usb cable ? Cables that i thought were good before for me have all of the sudden stopped workin correctly. And not just me but many others have found the fix with flashin problems to be that of using a different cable.

Well, I tried a different cable, and I tried a different USB port and the connection between the phone and the cable felt more snug than my other cable. Thought for sure it would make a difference--still stuck at AT&T screen. When I flashed the 2.1 stock ROM, it displays clearing cache and other things and then it applied the multi CSC file (looked like recovery). When I flashed the KK4 ROM, no such thing occurred.

Well...i would say internal issues with the phone is the problem then...that is the only guess i have. But still even that is confusing because of the success with eclair flashes...

It's almost as if my phone rejects anything other than 2.1, like there's an internal lock on flashing where only the phrase 2.1 works. I've tried I897UCJH7 and it works fine, this is the final version of 2.1 that samsung released before 2.2. I've tried the 2.1.1 version on Rodgers and it worked, but as soon as I tried 2.2+, boom, didn't work. This is super frustrating because besides sucking, the captivate can't update the gmail, youtube applications, facebook doesn't work on 2.1 anymore for some reason, the battery life is marginal at best, gpu driver updates. ughhhhh.

This all just confuses me

We're just as confused as you are eh.

At some point, I though it was from corrupted boot but it flashes the bootloaders, just not the firmware.. So probably something else is wrong.

If you think it's worth the investment, you should contact AdamOutler or Connection2005 (mobiletechvideos.com), their JTAG/riftbox might be the solution (he provides this service for a small fee). It's usually used for (hard) bricked captivate, brings them back.

As a last shot in the dark, have you tried flashing on a different pc and without the sim/external card (if you have one)? *fresh download would be recommended*
