I am loving my perfectly refurbished note 3. I it's flawless! And I got mine for 250 no contract
I called att and they unlocked it no problemHow did you get it without a contract? Was it on eBay or something? AT&T is only offering the refurb N3 on a 2 year contract. $250 sounds like a great deal. Did you have to pay for activation as well?I am loving my perfectly refurbished note 3. I it's flawless! They had a special on the Saturday before Easter. They tried charging me for the activation but i asked them to please get rid of that ridiculous charge and they gave me a 36 credit
You do realize that activation fees and contract are two different things, right?

I got mine online with an upgrade. Maybe it was a special deal only at that time?

I just got mine upgrade last week. It came with 4.3 and would not update to 4.4.2 when I tried to upgrade the day I got it. However it did upgrade a day or 2 later. So far I'm loving it came here today to see about rooting it.
All 3 of mine came with 4.3 (MJ5). Was able to root with Kingo and install safestrap.
If you took the OFFICIAL over the air update to 4.4.2, you are stuck on it and unrootable. Is that what you are saying?
Yep, all Note 3s come with 4.3 installed. Perfect for rooting!
This is all great news. I have been freaking out that it would come with 4.4 installed (since the details of the phone on the ATT website says Android OS 4.4)
Mine is on the truck and out for delivery so it should be at my house waiting for me when I get home. Can't wait to root and SS (although I have no experience with SS).
My understanding is, and please correct me if I am wrong, if it comes with 4.3 then I will be able to root, install SS and then install a custom TW rom but I will not be able to install any AOSP Rom's.
Guess it's time to do some research.

ps. Will the phone try to autoupdate to 4.4 when I turn it on? If so, is there a way to stop that process before it begins? Should I turn it on with no SIM and no WIFI? and then root?

Got my refurn it jumped to NB4 what safestrap should i use
I just got my note 3 att refurn exchange after a kitkat update.. (Worked for exchange) and it auto updated to NB4. I am still un 4.3.
I was able to root it with Kingo, I put the 3.71 safestrap in.. What Roms can I load. Do I have to be back on MJ5 or will the NB4 work with custom roms loaded with safestrap. I Froze att updates with titanium. I don't want to loose root or safestrap. Can I put any custom 4.3 while on NB4? Please help have gone through 100's of pages trying to find this answer.

As an update....I received my refurbished Note 3 yesterday. Took out the sim, charged battery, turned it on. Rooted with Kingoroot. Installed 3.71 SS. Followed the procedure for upgrading to 4.4 using leaked version.
So now all is right with the world. I have my Note and it is rooted. Yes, I'll miss AOSP roms for now, but I'll survive.

No, I havent seen any requests and I am not expecting any. It is my understanding that OTA would not work for those running custom ROM's but I could be wrong about the reason but I am pretty sure that we wouldnt see the OTA request.
I got my refurb Note 3 with 4.4.2 already installed.
I was hoping for 4.3 so I could root it isn't bad stock after disabling a ton of bloat. Just wish I could link ringtone and notification volumes.
