If you only want to send to other smartphone users, get an IM app. Gtalk, ebuddyXms. Whatsapp, kik. The list goes on and on.

I've been searching for then answer myself and so far, nothing is perfectly matched with the sms package provided by the ISP but the closest to it is Whatsapp.
+ use phone #
+ instantly Tx/Rx with indications
+ ability to send picture, audio/video clip
+ group chat
+ works everywhere in the world as long as you have a) in-service smartphone and b) internet connection.

the downside is
+ all parties MUST have Whatsapp installed.
+ no IP calling.
+ cost $0.99 annually (first year is free for Android)

note: I want to find out if this little app would work with a non-smartphone # but on a tablet.

Whatsapp is also not free. First year free, $0.99/yr thereafter.

Absolutely right as I totally forgot about it.
It costs merely a dollar for 365 days.
I paid $5 per month for 200 msgs, so $1 per year makes me totally forget about it, especially first year is free.
