Frequently Asked Questions
Motorola Xoom (MZ601;MZ602;MZ604;MZ605)

This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.

Q1: How do I Root my devices?
You can either try using the One Click Tool made by XxLordxX (LAIOT) or follow one of the many guides out there. Like this one

Q2: What is the adb?
Q3: What recovery should I use?
Currently there are two recoveries on Xoom being updated, you can either use TWRP or CWM6

Q4: What is the best ROM?
There is no "Best ROM" it's up to a personal idea, check on the second post for all ROMs on Xoom (Since 4.1.2).

Q5: Why should I root?
Root gives you liberty to change almost anything on your device, also with it you can flash custom ROMs and kernels. Check this video (by XDA-TV) for a better answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czTkHe7-lXw

Q6: Do I really have to Unlock my bootloader prior to rooting?
Yes you do. There is no workaround for this.

Q7: How do I relock my bootloader then?
The same tool for rooting can also unroot and relock your bootloader. Here's a link for LAIOT again.

Q8: Is there a way to return to Stock?
Yes there is. Use LAIOT as a one click solution or follow this great tutorial by @alecbond [LINK]
Need help preparing Xoom for official updates

Q9: I think I bricked my Xoom...
If it's appearing "RSD Mode 3" you can follow this guide to unbrick, else please search the Q&A to see if there's someone with the same problem as you.

Q10: Which are the Xoom versions?
MZ600/MZ602 - Verizon Xoom - Stingray - Black Cover
MZ601/MZ605 - GSM Xoom - Everest - White Cover
MZ604 - WiFi Only Xoom - Wingray - Grey Cover

Q11: I searched all around this FAQ and scattered the Earth searching for a solution, and didn't find, what to do?
Create a thread on Q&A and explain your problem as clear as possible.

Q12: I found a bug on a ROM, but can't post on Development thread because of the stupid 10 posts rule, what now?
"I don't care if you're the next Chainfire or just a random spammer. If you can't make 10 posts you shouldn't be on XDA" - KidCarter93

Q13: I'm a Xoom 2/Xyboard user, is there a FAQ for us?
There is this thread specially for Xoom 2 users, please use it.

Root didnt work?

Hello,

I attempted to root My European Xoom which is on JB 4.1.2 Folowed the instruction from FAQ How do I root my device.

I followed all the instructions from Manual Root Way, by XxLordxX and everything went fine. Did exactly as said so when I finally reached the point where you download "Root Checker Basic" and it says Sorry! This device does not have proper root access. But there is a superuser app but it doesnt do much. So whats gone wrong guys?

Plus once this problem is fixed do I need to do Step 5: Backup Image to SD card and Step 6: Restoring Image from SD card?
To load a custom rom.

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for following my guide! I will try helping you as much as possible! Please, try opening Superuser app and checking if it has the su binary (SU app usually does it automatically). And for step 5 and 6 are not necessary to load a custom ROM ;).

Cheers,

Thanks Lord, sorry for the late reply Ive been having laptop problems.

Ive opened the superuser app It has 3 tabs on the top Apps, Log, Settings. I go into settings and at the bottom in Superuser information heading, it has Su Binary v3.0.3.1 tap to check for updates. When i click on that it checks for updates and then says checking available version failed.

Cheers
