That's because the updates thing in settings isn't to check for new updates, it'll only mention if one is pending ie. you got the OTA notification but told it not to install.

Closest thing Android has to checking for new updates is the CHECKIN code.
O thanks for the info, i guess i'm have to wait until my phone gets the OTA. No way of doing it manually from Googles Nexus One website?

No.

EPF30 is the European Vodafone Nexus One.

Google Germany has confirmed that Android 2.2 is currently only available for Nexus One smartphones bought directly from Google. An update for the Vodafone Nexus One will follow "shortly".

it's better to wait... now it's only a matter of few days, I hope... In the official communicate Google says: "This update will be rolled out gradually to phones - and most users will receive the notification by the end of the week."
so wait at least till the week-end ;)

Thanks for the info guys. I hope it isnt Vodafone that gets to say when the OTA will go out for EPF30. I had a nightmare experience with them when using my HD2. Not sure Voda know the meaning of update. :p

hi guys, just a question, will APPs, Settings, Contacts, and other data on SD or Phone memory remain unaffected by the upgrade? Should i perform any backup or something?
And another question... is exactly 512 mb ram available in Froyo?
thanks:)

Everything is backed up and settings all kept when I did the upgrade. Maybe perform a backup if you are not 100% confident. Worked for me.

Ok, im confused.

Will the OTA update install no matter what my phone state is?

ie. If i am 100% stock, the OTA update will install. What if i have a rooted N1 with RA recovery, will the OTA update install? What if i have a custom ROM. Will i be able to get the OTA update?
