Friends phone has issue

his issue seems to revolve around his usb. But before I just tell him its a hardware problem I want to ask..

Has anyone had a issue where there phone will not boot unless it is plugged in?
And while it is off the circle spins around like when it is detecting a charger..

Confused? You're talking about a fascinate right? What is he plugging it into? A wall outlet and it wont charge? So when the phone is off, and he plugs it in there's no battery showing up?

Fascinate yes. Verizon yes. Yes it charges. If he turns the phone off he is basically screwed unless he has a charger with him.. Because without the charger the phone is stuck at the looking for charger screen....

No. a verizon sold extended.. And I tried the voodoo frakenkernel that supposedly helps non oem batteries

I'll throw on the heap here. If you're still running 2.1 on the device then flashing up to 2.2 can only help you.

If you're running 2.2 and you flashed the voodoo franken kernel you're using a 2.1 kernel, and would explain just about any problems you could possibly find.

The extended battery that verizon sells should work with the phone without any help or modification.

I've had trouble before if I unplug the phone before it shoes the fancy charging screen while its showing the spinning wheel. I suggest unplugging it, removing the battery, placing it back in, then powering up. see how that goes.

As I said.. It goes far beyond a glitch.. To the point it always thinks the bat is 100 % and thinks its plugged in.. Even after full odin to stock.thank you for the advice though

All I can contribute to this is my gfs fascinate did the same ****. And randomly it would say USB connected when nothing was plugged in. I tried flashing stock on there and it didn't fix it. It kinda just stopped doing it on its own
