Thanks. I've read a lot on there and I read about installing a custom bootloader. Is that true with knox?

Nop, this method is only for the N900V on LL , for the International version use this one:

if you flash a custom bl (meaning you can unlock your bl) then yes, it typically trips knox

I thought knox stopped u from installing a custom bootloader. I tried on my note 2 and it kept falling after I updated to 4.3
irs not knox itself more so when they updated it they locked the BL and patched anything that allowed u to flash custom BLs to your device.. its how majority of Sammy devices are except on certain carriers and international variants

Ok. I'm new to this a little. I been slowly learning about flashing. Originally started with the Droid x. Had some trouble. I gained root to it. I got rid of it for a 4G. I had note 2 had root access on it. Flashed twrp bc I figured out u have to have custom bootloader to flash roms. Then took 4.3 update and couldn't install twrp anymore. I ordered a 9005 international variant bc I read some ppl installing phils recovery. But I'm just a little confused with knox on it. Don't know what it will stop me from flashing on that phone. Bc I know on my 900v I'm pretty restricted to only a rom that will run on stock kernel and radio

first iff id look in the international thread if that is what you will have.

theres a huge difference usually as international variants you can typically unlock the BL vs. vzw/att variants you typically cannot.

the difference being one, you can have a recovery such as philz touch if the BL is unlockable vs. if it isnt you need to use something like Flashfire for flashing needs.

Two being if you have an actual recovery like Philz, you can flash other roms like AOSP, CM etc. vs. using something like Flashfire you can only flash roms with the stock kernel (i.e. touchwiz based roms)

Either way, if you unlock any BL or manage to flash any kernels for example that are modified or other than stock it will trip Knox. Therefore if you have an international variant and unlock the BL and use something like CF Autoroot, your Knox will be tripped.

So even if there is know I can still treat it like a developer phone but knox will be tripped? Also is there anything wrong with tripping knox?

I don't mean to barge in, but I also am wondering this. Is Knox tripping only important/relevant if I wish to maintain warranty status (e.g. if I need to send in my device to Samsung for warranty-covered repairs)?

I purchased my phone outright, and therefore I believe the warranty is void in my case.

if you pay outright it should still be covered under a year manufacturer warranty..

tripping knox voids this warranty.

there are some other things i have heard such as certain apps/services not working if knox is tripped such as samsung pay but i cannot confirm what works and doesnt work with knox tripped but these are typically 2 reasons some do not like to trip knox

Thank you, elliwigy! You've been very helpful in helping me figure out this beast that is Knox.

And I suppose it doesn't matter now that I bought outright -- it was more than a year ago anyway. :sly:

Hi so i've tried out this root method and everything worked out well from tar1 but once i proceed to installing tar2, odin didnt not want to proceed with the install. and left me with <OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0).
I am currently stuck in system recovery and the phone is no longer being detected in anyways.
How will I be able to get around this if someone can point me towards the right direction please?

Ok I'm having trouble getting the n9005 to pick up verizon frequency and I read that I have to flash a modem that picks up the verizon frequency. Do u know where I can download it? This seems to be a lot of work lol I'm worried about hard bricking the phone

Make sure you are using a usb2.0 Samsung only...not the 3.0 Samsung that came with phone and not a gas station cord. Neither will work. Also try it fresh from a reboot of your PC..

I think I soft bricked my phone. I unlocked the bootloader following instructions from this thread then I went ahead and installed cm13 from this thread. When SU said I no longer had root I came here and after trying to run the program provided, I simply got hung up on the verizon logo splash screen.

I've tried using the stock 5.0 .tar I've used a couple times in the past when I mucked things up but it doesn't seem to be working now. I'm still getting stuck on the red verizon screen. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just so u are aware, if u can get it back up and running, root is deactivated in cm13.(most mm Roms) All u need to do is open dev options, and allow root access.

But if u can still manually boot into ur recovery (twrp or cm) just reflash cm13 and gapps if not try to Odin back to stock
