I'm guessing they had to start somewhere and the oldest phone should get the first update. They gave it a two week window, so hopefully the rest of them will get it next, with the Slide getting it last around mid November.

This must be a joke. I don't understand why the 1st myTouch would get the update before us and not only that, the phone is getting live wallpaper? Its a rumor.

Why wouldn't the older phone get the update first? (Plus the espresso is most likely the only reason its taking so long, if we were on stock then we'd probably already have it or it would be coming to us tomorrow like the original mytouch).
If you were using an older phone you'd be complaining the newer phones getting update before the old ones.

The 3G came out before the Slide, Ounc. How do you figure it's a joke?
Because what company you know takes a step backwards? No offense to mytouch 3g owners, but I have never seen anything like this. Has Apple ever updated. The old Iphones before the more current Iphones? Has. Windows done that? I could understand if the phones were 2 completely different phones. Like a Evo and G1. The mytouch 3g and mytouch slide are the same line of phones. The difference between these 2 are, the slide has a keyboard, better ram, better cpu, better camera, etc. Why wouldn't the more top of the line mytouch not get the update first? I completely understand that the mytouch 3g has been stuck on 1.6 for a while. I've had 2 mytouch 3g's. I stepped away from them thinking that if I buy the newer version (slide) I would be more up to date with both hardware and software. If I would of known then I would of just kept the mytouch 3g and wait awhile before I upgrade. How would the g2 owners feel if they knew that the g1 was getting Ginger Bread before them?

The reason is mytouch is getting vanilla froyo not that damned slide ui that tmobile threw on there. So they don't have to do all these changes they can just ship stock froyo. So its easier to ship.

I'm assuming that its getting Espresso because I read that it said something about changes to the UI plus there was mention in the past about the 3g getting the Genious button (virtual). I think the mytouch line is all switching over to Espresso if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think it's espresso sense purely based on the bullet point of having dedicated phone, all apps and browser shortcuts. That sounds like stock froyo. Espresso, at least with our 2.1 version, has dedicated phone, all apps and faves shortcuts.

Just a thought; everyone is so excited about a 2.2 update, I wonder if it's 2.2 or 2.2.1?

hmm is the original mytouch even capable of running the same espresso rom as the slide?

I don't see why not. The only thing that kept the G1's from running sense ROM's was the stock SPL was too small. HTC changed that for the original mytouch on up. A quick search in the magic/sapphire forum showed they ported it. It may be a stripped down version of it, like not having "my modes" themes.

I'm thinking a 2.2.1 update, HD should be getting it so if all else we just port over that one and be happy.
I'm really excited about getting 2.2 tho im a fan of espresso and just don't want to be with out froyo so this is going to be great once we finally get a hold of it.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to port it from the myTouch hd/4G/ whatever the hell they call it next. With a 3.7" (or is it 3.8") screen, it'll be HDPI whereas the Slide is MDPI screen resolution. That's why we haven't been able to port ROMs from the Desire or any other HDPI device.

Are you sure they weren't talking about the original mytouch? The timeline for that phone was that the update was to done by the 25th and there have been no mentions of the Slide update anywhere else, or the other versions of the mytouch, fender, 1.2. I don't think the rep understood you or got things confused. I wouldn't bet on an update starting then.

Could've sworn they were the same size screens, guess my source was wrong.
But yea that would make it a lot harder to port over, but seeing as it is espresso then perhaps someone will be more interested in porting it and take that time to make it happen for us, that is if we don't see it for the mts for a while after the HD release.
Although Google could easily scale everything from HDPI to MDPI with the HD Espresso. They are far more experienced with resources so it shouldn't take that long for them.
I don't know, looks like it's still a waiting game of "You'll see it soon" with no word on how soon is.
