I think it's easier to get root on .307 firmware, save it with OTA Root keeper and then update to 10.3.1.A.0.244 with pc-companion and restore root.
What the... I protected root with the ota root keeper and installed 10.3.1.A.0.244 with pc-companion when I am back to OTA root keeper I dont see restore root button.

The system and data partition get wiped during installation -> your root is gone.

Ota rootkeeper to 99% only works when you update within the same android version

This worked for me with bootloader unlocked but you can do it with your own risk :good:
well this is another way i successfully rooted my on stock 4.2.2 (model 321 build number 244), firstly flash 244 FTF using flashtool-0.9.10.2beta6, after that download doomlords advance kernel and save it somewhere on your desktop download the SU.zip and save it on your tablet, then open flashtool and select fastboot mode, boot your tablet to fastboot, then select kernel to flash by doomlord, then find the advance doomlord image file that you downloaded and click open, now reboot into CWM recovery, flash SU.zip. then reboot again into Flash mode, now in flash tool click flash to select the 244 FTF file but this time untick everything and only include the kernel from 244 FTF then flash, after this reboot your device. now you should have root installed :D and working on 4.2.2 stock firmware :good::laugh: hope this helped

Made the rooting steps I took more clear and moved them into the 1st post.
lowtraxx - thanks for your work on this ....

To confirm, I followed all of your steps and have now successfully rooted my SGP321 .244 (android 4.2.2), restored DRM keys etc and re-locked bootloader.

All working fine and my Rooting status = "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes" - i.e. as if I hadn't touched anything it which is good for the Sony warranty ...

Free again - now on to re-install Adaway, Titanium root ... etc ;)

Thanks again.

What are the diferences between 307 and this 244?
  • Centered Soft Buttons on bottom.
  • Notification bar on top instead of bottom.
  • More like Phone UI instead of a tablet UI.
  • Small App drawer is there just like in Xperia Z series.
  • Quick Settings feature from notification panel.
  • Lock Screen has semi-transparent status bar.
  • Multi User Account option now available

Does it worth changing to 244?
After using it for 3-4 days now ...

On the up-side, I am finding the tablet a bit snappier especially when I have lots of apps open, I think that might be down to memory management improvements from Android 4.1.x to 4.2.x. I am also seeing an improvement in battery life - not sure if Sony have made any improvements to their "Stamina" mode which I use ... your mileage may vary ...

On the down-side, I am still not a huge fan of the new UI (centralised back, home and recents capacitive buttons) and if rooting is your thing, it is far more difficult to root, involving many steps versus one simple script ...

All in all though, I prefer to be on the latest release of Android, Sony Kernels etc for performance & stability so I plan to stay with .244, especially now I have successfully rooted ...
