Is rooted 244 best and smoothest ROM for XZT? I have tried several, this one is best for me...

Haven't tried CM/PAC etc so can't say for sure, but 244 is working nicely for me. Keep in mind that rooting isn't going to change performance.

Of course, not the "computing performance", but general usability is much improved ;) (Backups, system apps, dpi,...)

i set super su to system app, but did doesnt help :(
I do not know what to tell you except several people who were running 4.1.2 with root access have reported that they configured SuperSU as being a system app prior to updating to 4.2.2 and successfully retained root access after updating to 4.2.2. Perhaps they failed to mention they had some other setting turned on, like SuperSU's Survival mode. Perhaps reading their posts and asking them for more information will help you solve your problem. I have not done this procedure because I have a SGP312 WiFi only tablet and no 4.2.2 update has yet been released for it.

this method works if you use OTA Root keeper.

Try flashing a downgrade to .307, then as mentioned in earlier posts, root .307 using DooMLoRD's tool, set SuperSU as a system app, then do an OTA update (not flash) to .244.

I had managed to root my .244 successfully yesterday. I was on .244. Steps that I take are
1) downgraded to .307 using flashtool.
2) Root .307 using DoomLord toolkit v17.
3) Change SuperSU to system app [edit: can be done directly in SuperSU setting]
4) Update back to .244 via OTA

Now, I have rooted .244.

wat you meant by '3) Change SuperSU to system app'
when i use DoomLord kit, superSU is already a system app.. is there any other setting cos i have just rooted... at 307 gonna install my 244 soon...

thanks

edit: users using this steps are to check if superSU are in system app mode.. if not please enable it.
i have done the same steps and its working fine..

I follow the tips from here

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-any-app-as-system-app-on-android/

Basically, SuperSu is installed in /data/app
Changing it to system app is simply moving the file eu.chainfire.supersu-1.apk from that directory to /system/app

I use root explorer to manually move the apk. My Z force boot itself a couple of times after the move. After the reboot incidents, the Z behave normally.
From the tips above, someone mention that there are other tools like Titanum backup that can do the moving auto etc.
(Update : there is a setting in SuperSU itself that can change it to system app)

Once SuperSU is in the system directory, OTA update the rom to .244 will still retain root as this update does not delete this apk.
My hunch is update the rom via other means such flashing or PC companion refresh the entire tablet, hence root is lost.

Until someone find some new exploit to root .244 directly, this method is probably the easiest way to root .244 imo.

Hope this help. Thanks

The SuperSU app has an option in the settings to convert to system app. Requires a couple of reboots but did it happily. I also had OTA root keeper installed at the time, didn't need to use it to restore root so may have done other stuff to help... if having issues flash back to previous version and try again.

You are correct that this won't work if you're flashing from PC companion or some sort of flash tool. Will only work with the OTA update.

Thanks for pointing this out :good:. This make the rooting procedure even more easier.
