So let me get this straight before I screw up my device - apologies for my lack of experience here! I'm currently running .757 firmware with tr1gg3r84's 4.4.4 rooted CandyKat.

It reads like I can just flash the deodex from post #2 over my current installation to be on .108 firmware and still be running rooted CandyKat - no need to FTF .108 itself, as such.

Is that correct, or have I got the wrong end of the stick completely? Appreciate any guidance available - thanks!

you can only flash post 2 once already on 108 - if you flash it over 757 you will have issues.
my instructions may be a little misleading - Post 2 will deodex your system "once you have upgraded to 108 via ftf flash"

Nope, just me not paying attention - post #1 does say "You can now flash the deodex patch in Post 2 or Post 3 if you would like", I missed that along the way.

No worries, thanks for steering me straight!

what you could do is flash the FTF but:
untick data wipe
end
exclude system
exclude kernel

that should be the same as candykat => full .108 FTF => candykat

But as always have a nandroid in case it goes tits up

Thanks for the tip - did that, and it booted well enough, everything works. Except the camera - which is what I'm trying to fix. Still got to have the camera fix installed, and ix-nay on the Google camera from the Play store too. I'll try the hard way tomorrow, see if I can get better results.

I also seem to be a bit laggy overall, but that could just be me... or dirty flashing... or which way the wind blows :)

Like the dark theme, only thing I see wrong is when in a call the keyboard has white writing with white keys so very hard to see. Other than that had no problems so far.

So everything is working well now. Installing the regular deodexed patch from post 2 and the original dark app pack separately did the trick for me. Thanks all. I Love the dark system apps and menus. Only problem I see is also on the in-call keyboard. The white numbers on the light gray background make the keys almost impossible to see. Other than that it's perfect. :good:

Dark Themed Apps / Deodex Patch
(same instructions as post 2, but you get (deodexed) dark themed system apps)
This is a full system patch (not just themed apps) ~ it can be flashed instead of post 2.

Credit @Rajeev ~ thank him if you like this!
Here is the thread link for his mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53800682
Screenshots in the thread are from this set up!

Update: there have been a few reports of bootloops after flashing this. Until I have sorted it out please flash post 2 patch then the mod from @Rajeev linked above. (confirmed method by @dandyqb)
