How do you get into service menu? There's no dialler?!?

Sent from my SGP321 using Tapatalk 4
Contacts > settings > touch and hold the bottom of the contacts app, just above the bar with the back/home/recent apps for a couple of seconds, let go and there will be a new button, which when tapped will open a dialer.

I'm a little rusty on this, since I've been on CM since forever and haven't used stock for more than a couple of hours. Perhaps Google can help you further if my instructions are not clear and/or wrong :)

Open the Contacts app and go into its Settings. Long press on the bottom center area of the Settings screen for 5 seconds. After you remove your finger from the screen, an "Enter service code" button will be displayed. Press the button and a dialer will be displayed. Enter *#*#7378423#*#* and the Service menu will be displayed.

It leads to a Google search page that clearly says, twice, 4.1.2 . It took me about 3 seconds to find it.

Yes, you can root without unlocking bootloader.
