Why would you need to edit out the Verizon part? It's still under manufacturer warranty. Or is this so we don't get a locked bootloader Verizon replacement?

Not going to work. The unlocked variants actually came from verizon, not google.
I just did an insurance claim and they sent me an unlocked variant.. didn't send me the same color phone I originally had.. but needless to say the OEM unlock isn't greyed out

had you edited the packing slip prior to you sending the device in for replacement?

I only ask because there is 2 bar-codes on the packing slip. One with the RMA #. The other for device make/mode/ type.

Why wouldn't they just scan the bar-codes?

Consider yourself lucky then I have been through 5 replacements two from Verizon and three from Google. The Google replacements always came locked. The Verizon one was unlocked. Literally one month ago I got a replacement from Google completely locked.
