Well, that worked. Odin didn't complain about ND8 and the flash completed successfully, the phone boots and works normally. Too bad about all of the phone numbers she lost (it was synced with gmail, but that saved only the email addresses not the phone numbers). Maybe I'll teach her again how to make a backup, although the previous 11 or so times I did it was useless. :)
Whenever you sign in to your Google acct. it asks if you want Google to backup and auto-restore your info. Every time I flash a new rom Google automatically restores all of my contacts for me. Can't remember the last time I had to manually restore them.

Yes, but for some reason it backed up only the email addresses, not the phone numbers.

Glad it got it working.

Maybe she had contacts saved to the Samsung account instead of to Google? Or to the phone?

The ROM in running is based on stock but is very modified, so probably why Samsung isn't showing here:

There is also an option to save your contacts to your sdcard via the import/export feature. Doesn't help in this instance but it's something to remember for next time.

Not sure why it only saved emails. I have numbers, names, emails, all saved in my default Gmail acct, and every time I get a new phone or wipe clean it's as easy as logging into my acct upon initial log on.

I know this thread is old but...

I've been running slimkat 4.4 for a while now and for some odd reason would like to return to stock just because.

Originally my phone had 4.3 and had never received the official 4.4 update.

My recovery is Philz touch 6.

Can I use this tar file?

And I dont care about knox or the counter...its my phone.

As long as you've never updated to the Kk 4.4 boot loader, then yes, you can

So Cal
Odin'd this ROM--ended up KNOX'd. Did I do something wrong, or...?

Hey, gang. Noob here, hoping to learn from his mistakes, and figure out where I went wrong pushing this ROM to my sponged phone a week ago! (An SPH-L710)

I was in a bootloop, and frantically searched for a stock ROM to push. I ended up here, after trying to download a couple that were going to take 10 hours or something to arrive...

Phone came back to life (Yay!) but I noticed I now had a red "warranty flag (?)" that was set to "1". SuperSU also notified me that it found KNOX on the phone... Drat.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what I should look for in a stock ROM. The "MK3" in the name caught my eye--but I thought that had something to do with the kind of modem it had...? (For some reason, now, I think that may have NOTHING to do with the modem--but I'm not really sure why.)

Did I chose the 'wrong' stock ROM, or did I do something wrong (or fail to PREVENT something) that resulted in my KNOXedness?? I'm really unclear on what happened--and hope to learn so I don't ever do whatever it was again!

Thanks in advance!

MK3 and ND8 (4.3 and 4.4) both have Knox, it won't effect your device in any way other than that number. I have a Knox app removal tool- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52465147

So the ROM CAME with knox. Lucky me. I've since custom ROMd the phone (LiquidSmooth); does your removal tool remove knox--or just knox apps (whatever those are) from the stock ROM?

Appreciate the help.

Only Knox Apps, there is no way to remove Knox from the bootloader. And again, it doesn't effect anything with the use of your device. And the Knox Apps were what SuperSU was referring to.

Well, that's a relief (I think). There are no scenarios where I have to be super careful (flashing modems, etc), lest I brick my beloved beast?

Do not try to downgrade your Modem or Firmware. You are on 4.3, you can only Odin 4.3 stuff or ND8 (4.4) stuff. And if you go to ND8, the same applies. So if you upgrade you can't go back. But you can flash any ROM either way. Just don't use Odin unless you're gonna upgrade and you won't brick.

Okay, good. That's helpful.

So any future stock ROM pushes to the phone via odin need to be at LEAST 4.3? And if I use an ND8 stock ROM, then THAT becomes my new 'baseline'? Why have I seen some threads that offer bootloader AND modem .zip files--and would those be dangerous to flash? Or do I need to just make sure THOSE are at least 4.3??

Yes. I would personally avoid them. If you're gonna upgrade do it right and use the full ND8 tar. And then you can use ND8 ROMs, but other than that, if you're gonna use AOSP then you might as well stay where you're at.

No danger in flashing JUST modems? Most of the AOSP builds this month were having data connectivity issues with older modems (I had a G2). I keep reading suggestions to flash some newer modems. (I'm assuming modems are a separate thing from bootloaders??) Thank for your ongoing help (and patience!)... :good:
