What if I'm rooted with Magisk? Can I do it your way?
And will I lose my data?

If you're rooted:

1. Update to the latest magisk.

2. Reboot you're phone.

3. Reboot to twrp, and install the full rom zip.

4. Install the latest magisk zip.

5. Reboot to system, it might take 5 minutes.

Done.

Un-locked bootloader and encrypted.
Upgraded from 9.0.3 to 9.0.4 with full system image via TWRP. No issues, data was NOT wiped. WiFi seems to be more stable, battery drain is much less than I had on 9.0.3.

Thank you, spetrie! But that available space in the system partition is exactly as much as it was in the Oreo build. I fail to understand how that could be an issue. Also, the Substratum layouts are being installed to the system/app, and those are working fine.
Did you look at the free space in system with a file explorer? Mine shows 0Mb until I delete a few files. I was then able to copy some extra files to the system partition. Oreo had some free space.

Hello, now I am at OOS 9.0.4, as soon as I install Magisk, the phone automatically restarts to TWRP.
When I do not install Magisk, the system normally starts.
What is the problem? I need a root.
TNX to all.
EDIT:
I moved directly from 9.0.2 with root, dirty flash.
At 9.0.2 everything worked perfectly with the latest TWRP official.
Unlocked bootloader and encrypted phone.
What caused the problem?
The same configuration on 9.0.2 works perfectly with Magick 19.3 last stable.
PLS help me.

SOLVED

I found the problem solving itself.

The bluespark one is a bit old now so I flashed the 9.0.4 using the latest TWRP version from here: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/oneplus3/

Just a heads up though, if you are coming from an Oreo rom, the 9.0.4 update will wipe your internal storage, so make sure you back everything up. Apart from that, it's a good update, I was a bit worried about updating because I've seen some users say their phone was laggy after the update but I'm pleased to say that isn't the case for me, it feels fast and smooth

Used this method to go from 9.0.2 to 9.0.4. Worked perfect ✨

I don't know what to do. The OTA upgrade to 9.0.3 keeps failing. It doesn't tell me why. I had bricked it a year ago by trying to help it through updates, and I managed to get it back running, but it had lost all its imei, modems, etc. i finally got that all sorted and it succeeded in upgrading to Android 8.0.0. I haven't touched it since, but it has done some OTA updates successfully since without needing any help. Now this. I don't want the same thing to happen again. I don't want it to format data partition if it means wiping all my stuff; How do I back it all up if I don't have root? Does data include all my photos and stuff? And I don't know if I can still remember how to flash this. I am really worried about bricking the damn thing again. Can someone outline a SAFE procedure to do this update without losing anything? Mine is a OnePlus 3, not 3t. I've downloaded the 9.0.4 but haven't tried to flash it or anything yet. The current OOS is 5.0.8. Seems like a big jump. What are the consequences of not updating at all? I have no issues with it as it is, but I fear apps might start refusing to update or some such. I wish I could just put something stable on it and leave it. I'm not young anymore, I can't keep doing this every month or whatever.

You are only one major version behind. You won't get any app related issues soon. There is no need to risk updating If your phone works perfectly and you don't need the new features.

If you run into issues one day you can still do the update. Honestly, the op3 is a couple of years old now maybe it will not survive this long.

TWRP version should not matter for flashing a rom with it and should not wipe your internal storage unless you manually do it from advanced wipe.

EDIT: Haven't flashed this ROM so can't share personal experience.

Don't use old versions of (blu_spark) TWRP!

The latest version of blu_spark TWRP is from 2017-12-11, you should not use it anymore!

The guys of twrp don't update it for fun, it is to add new features, to repair bugs or to fix problems.

Always use the latest version of the official TWRP, unless what you try to flash requires you to use a specific version of (blu_spark) TWRP.
