Hello Guys, this Guide is for those who are on Beta Miui Rom,Eu ane Miui pro Rom (May work on stable ROMs) and want Full Screen Display or On-Screen Navigation Bar for your Redmi Note 4 or other Mi phones ;)

DISCLAIMER:  I will not responsible if anything goes wrong like bricked or bootloop of your mobile due to your stupidity :p

REQUIREMENTS:
1) Any Root File Manager (Here ES file explorer) or Build Prop Editor
Note: Mount the system from the Root Explorer option in ES Explorer
CAUTION: Editing system files is harmful, do it at your own risk.

GUIDE:

STEP 1 - Enabling Software keys or Full Screen Display Gestures

1. Open ES File Explorer, tap the menu icon from top left corner and expand Tools. In tools, enable the ‘Root Explorer’ option and grant full root access to ES explorer when prompted.
2. In ES explorer, open the Device (/) directory from Menu > Local > Device. Go to system folder and open the build.prop file with ES note editor.
3. Edit the file by selecting the edit option from top right corner. Then scroll down to the bottom and add the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
4. In Build Prop Editor Add Line as 'qemu.hw.mainkeys' and value as 0
5. Go back and select ‘Yes’ to save the build.prop file.
6. Reboot the phone.

NOTE: If you see the on-screen keys only then proceed to next step, otherwise check it by alternate methods mention...

STEP 2 - Enable Full Screen Display Gestures
1) Go to Settings, there will be option as Full Screen Display, Tap it
2) There will be 2 options of Buttons and FSG, Tap on FSG

NOTE: If you want FSG with hardware buttons then don't proceed, enjoy FSG on Miui

STEP 3 - Disabling Hardware Keys
1) Open ES file explorer, go to Device > system > usr > keylayout directory. Open the file “ft5x06_ts.kl”, open it as Text and then select ES note editor. Edit the file and simply add the # prefix in front of the word key for all 4 keys.

In the end of that file there will be following four lines:

key 158 BACK
key 139 MENU
key 172 HOME
key 217 SEARCH

Add a '#' before each line so it would look like this:

#key 158 BACK
#key 139 MENU
#key 172 HOME
#key 217 SEARCH

2) Go back, Save file and Reboot.
3) Hardware Keys should now be disabled.

STEP 4 - Disabling capacitive key lights.

1)Download Capacitive Buttons app from Play Store.
2)Open it and grant root access.
3)Select the first option i.e no brightness.
4)Reboot.
:good::good::good:
All Done! :)

Hi, i see the option in the settings menu with a phone icon called 'Full Screen Display'. When you update the miui beta version, the update hide it, so you need to edit the build.prop file again.
My miui version is 8.3.1 xiaomi.eu edition. I see it from my back version 8.2.1. I'm using magisk root now but when i used the mod i had supersu, no problem.

I'm running Global Beta 8.4.12, and after editing the build.prop file and restarting, I get the message "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." and a black screen.

When I was editing the build.prop file, I've noticed that there is already an existing qemu.hw.mainkeys line, but it was set to 1 by default. Ignoring that line and adding a new qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 line at the bottom resulted in the error. Changing that pre-existing line to 0 resulted in the error as well.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks Sksmech, working perfect on MIUI 9.5.9
Instead of disabling navigation keys, I just turned off their backlight.

To get full screen gestures on miui rom you have to edit the buidprop as follows
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0

reboot and you will have full screen gestures in the settings

On my device it doesn't work properly. Xiaomi.eu Beta 8.7.12 MIUI 10 on Redmi Note 4 Global.
If I go through the steps in this manual, I get the on screen buttons work and the back gesture of the FSG. BUT the volume down button and the power button doesn't work anymore. Even after restoring the original files (build.prop etc.) the gestures and buttons stopped working. Only a complete new flash of rom helps.

Xiaomi eu enable FSG by default in settings , but qemu.hw.mainkeys values is "1" not "0" , it's mean no navbar/softkey but FSG option is visible in settings.. how are they mod this patch?.. I want to apply in Global ROM.

Not working properly, kindly help

I've done as said and got full screen gestures option in settings, but they work at a time on homescreen and then they don't work on any other app. Home gesture and back gesture are not working in 80% of apps.. So now reverting back to only hardware keys.
