I'm using my T-Mobile HTC One on Straight Talk with a T-Mobile compatible SIM and I'm getting very nice consistent speeds, 14up and 3 down. I'm in the Orlando area.
If you have trouble getting the straight talk apn to stick, you must set the "apn type", make sure to type in "default". Then save the apn and set it.

I am trying to do this but when I put my Straight Talk Sim in the One it adds a T-Mo APN and locks it in place. How did you get data working and unlock those APN settings? I could add the ST APN settings but it switches back to the T-MO settings.

Thanks!

I had the same problem, I had just finished setting up all my stuff (apps, screens, settings), then when I went to try set the ST apn it would automatically go back to tmo apn. So I decided to do a reset/wipe/restore and then before I started doing anything else I added the ST apn and set it and then it stayed on the ST apn. I don't know why it was doing that on a new never before used phone but a full reset/wipe fixed the problem.

No dice. Did you do the wipe from the settings menu or recovery? Are you rooted? Did you remove any of the bloatware?

Did you find a way to skip initial set up and get into the settings?

Sorry for the million questions but this has been driving me crazy.

I'm stock, not rooted, I wiped/reset from the menu settings.

You can skip connecting to a Wi-Fi network and adding accounts but it won't matter if you do/don't.

I used the straight talk apn settings found on the straight talk website.

Just purchase apn manager pro and titanium backup pro, make apn manager pro a system app by converting it .
Then u can add edit or choose apn settings this is also a known work around for many other phones who have apn issues like the vzw s3 model on tmobile

I just figured it out, you must set the "apn type", make sure to type in "default". Then save the apn and set it.

This and I'd recommend "admin". I had to use admin when I had a One S on Straight Talk. The APN would always revert back to T-Mobile only seconds after typing. (It took me A LOT of time to find that too.)

I tried "admin" but it doesn't work. I guess every phone has it's different tricks. So far only "default" works.

I've been on straight talk for a while now plus I only pay $38 a month for unlimited everything, usually it's $45 a month but I buy my refills on eBay for $38-$40. Coverage is the same since it uses tmobile towers plus the hspa+ is very good 14 down and 3 up. I also tether on occasion and never had a problem.

thanks for the response. yeh im on a att HTC One and thinking of going with either the straight talk att SIM or the straight talk tmobile sim. thinking of the $30 tmobile plan too. but for 8 or so more dollars. the tmobile straight talk plan is better.

Straight talk doesn't sell AT&T SIM cards anymore, only tmobile. However you can still purchase one on eBay, there are a lot of them, just make sure it's a 100% AT&T SIM from straight talk and not a net10 AT&T SIM. Once you have the SIM you go on the ST website and you select transfer from another carrier, not activate new SIM.

I found one from a reputable seller on ebay. What would be the difference between a NET10 ATT sim, versus a Straight Talk ATT Sim. Which one would you go with?

The net 10 Sims are for net10 service but some sellers use confusing language and they make you believe it's for straight talk. Definitely go with a straight talk AT&T SIM if you want straight talk service. Before I had my ONE I was using an AT&T SIM on Straight talk and the service was also excellent.

awesome. thank you so much for the help. I have ATT service now on my ATT HTC One, but I'm tired of paying their high data fees and I don't use no more than 1.5GB of data. Going with straight talk, I can still keep ATT service, forgo LTE, but save some money. When you reup on Straight for ATT, did you reup through their website or purchased the cards online?

I buy my refills from eBay, you can find the $45 unlimited 30 service for $38-40. The sellers usually add the airtime for you within a few hours.

great. thank you!
I forgot to mention that for your first time when you transfer your number you'll need to either buy a refill online from them when you're registering or if you buy a refill from Wal-Mart you can use that card. After that you can buy the airtime refill from eBay for your next month.
