Hey guys, I just got my Galaxy Nexus a few weeks ago, and it's supposed to have 1GB of RAM, but in the system properties (and third party apps), it always reports 678MB of total memory. Is this normal? Do others have the same thing? I know about flash and how part is used for other things, but that seems like a pretty significant portion that's missing. :(

I get 694 but get your point. It may be advising how much is set aside from apps and the O/S takes up the rest. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will provide something more than "It's normal".

Ram is reserved for GPU, DSP, baseband, and other things that require the ram to be dedicated to them

Sweet! I trust people who use lots of acronyms! =D Sounds good to me! I feel a lot better now.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I've hit all of your Thanks buttons! :)

Edit: btw, that first line wasn't sarcasm. lol. After rereading it, it sounded bad. haha

On phones, manufacturers get away with listing the total amount of memory because it's a fixed amount in 1 location that came change, unlike a computer that has varying video memory and main memory.

I do agree though that it's very shady and misleading though.
