4.4 bootloader

I see that the twrp 2.7 is up for the tmo n3. Does anyone have a way to get such and unlocked bootloader for dev edition?
I don t know if samsung will update this device. We just need a bootloader that flashes on this dev ed and allows a custom recovery.
Can I flash a 4.4 aosp or tw or I need special recovery /boot.img to b able to do this?
I am on mje with twrp 2.6.3.10 and b6 and colx kernel.

TIA

I just installed and tested the 2.7 for 4.3 TWRP and is fine. Install pacman rom & cm11 with TWRP 2.6.3.10 + also fine. More I hear about Kitkat the less I like. Just be sure to keep using the recoverys designed for 4.3.

I'm thinking the reason samsung won't give us the goods is that we'll be able to use it to unlock the retail guys.

At the end I want to b able to run a tw 4.4 and/or a AOSP.
Not cool if we get stuck on 4.3 bootloaders forever. not cool.
Sammy should be able to update 4.3 to 4.4 official such that we can get the booloader upgraded.
Right...

I'm not going to lose any sleep pining for 4.4. If all you want is tw then the retail version would do. Right now 4.3 is just a number because this phone rocks!

Dev edition not being updated is sammy fault. Device is not even sold by verizon.
They should also post factory images s.t people can really work on these devices.

Oh well...

Saw over at the Dirty Unicorn g+ community that a N3 rom is in the works. :) Love it on my nexus 7! Hopefully it will work with our DE.
Is it kk based?

Then, who do we blame for the constant back order status?

I'm pretty sure that samsung would love to sell devices that people seems to be very interested.

Also, since I noted several of you selling the devices, can I assume that is not longer worth it getting one if it ever comes back to the store?

Honestly the only reason IMO if you want a Dev edition is to develop of course and to run asop Roms, flash kernels ect. If you're really not into asop or developing, then there really is no reason to get one.

I bought a Dev ed only to run beans ROM. I bought it with intentions to run asop. But tw just rubbed off on me as well as beans ROM. I flashed asop Roms only to flash back to beans and have no desire to run asop Roms. So that's why I sold mines.

Hope this helps. Just IMHO.

My main reason to get a DE would be to be able to flash whatever ROM I can. Got burned twice by locked bootloaders and vericroocks almost pulled the same thing with the Gnex.

Now, I'm a complete noob, but my understanding is that beans cannot be installed on a retail unit, but from your post, looks like is possible. is this the case?

I just don't want a locked device that would force me to upgrade just because the carrier decides for me.

You can install Beans rom on a retail device. You have to root, then install Safestrap, then load Beans rom.

Dev Edition units are solely beneficial to anyone who wants to run a rom with AOSP kernel, or install roms "clean". But safestrap works with basically anything you find in "Android development Section" (unless otherwise specifically noted).

Ok, interesting.

Still would like to be able to flash whatever I like, but is nice to be able to do this with retail units.

If you're paying full price for unlimited data then get the DE, you'll have more options down the road. I'm loving the TW roms too but in a year or so, aosp will breathe new life into the device.

Don't send knox tripped phones to Samsung repair

My DE's EFS got corrupted while using EFS Professional. I clicked on "NV Backup" in EFS Pro, my phone immediately rebooted into boot-loops. After about two weeks of trying to fix i decided to send it in to Samsung to get DE firmware re-flashed.

I talked to a Samsung CSR and told him that it was a developer device, (nobody knows about these) told him: It had been rooted, knox was tripped, IMEI missing, firmware corrupt, out of warranty repair, I want to pay for the re-flash. All I want is original DE firmware flashed, I expect to pay for re-flash. He wrote down my requests in the ticket, and noted "out of warranty repair" on ticket.

So after 8 days in Texas I find out that the repair facilities policy is "any phone received that has been rooted is automatically deemed "BER" (beyond economical repair)". That's great to know!
I did flash back to stock before shipping. So just knox was tripped, and recovery error "E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument)".

Does anyone know of a Samsung technical services, or contact that can flash the firmware back to original DE, and write IMEI?
