Bloody hell, MY phone and laptop keep getting disconnected now. A replacement router is being sent to me because there are no settings that control this behaviour

I had the wifi-but-no-internet thing a few months ago, soon after I got the phone. It was fixed by a simple reboot of the router (which is a Netgear DG834PN). The problem hasn't happened since then, although it's possible that the permanent fix was in a firmware update (I'm currently on Cognition 1.5.1).

I have plugged my Belkin router via ethernet into my Netgear and now my wifi is ok when using Belkin. The Netgear router has problems with wifi, the power is up and down and my computer and phone keep losing their connections.

Try what I've said some post before... If you'll wait some minute (5-10) internet connection should work again
Hi,

Yep I had already tried everything you suggested previous to my posts, and I was getting exactly the same behaviour.

I would say since changing to a static IP has improved things for me though?

I need to test some more really, as I don't feel it's solved the problem entirely though...will keep you posted.

Cheers

I've tried the third router (Asmax) and I was thinking that everything is OK - internet connection was available constantly for few hours - but in the late evening I wanted to open my mailbox and I figured out that exactly the same problem appeared once again - wifi was connected but there was no internet access at all. Turning off and on wifi "solved" the problem immediately.
So I have tried three different routers so far (from Linksys, D-Link, Asmax) and the problem persist on all of them (I get most frequest disconnections on Linksys and the least frequent on Asmax). We really need a fix, maybe some kind of driver update...

I take it that everyone has the wifi settings of the phone to NON-sleep when screen is off?

I have just replaced my Netgear for a new one, everything is fine sofar. I did notice that my power adapter for the old router was 10 volts, whereas the new one was 12 volts.
:D

Wifi sleep set to 'Never'. Believe this is the stock setting.

Clearly this only affects some people.
Have borrowed a router and want to test here. Keep u posted.

Ok, I guess it is not the router in your cases. So that leaves the roms or defective sgs2's. I am on Revolution rom at the mo. What roms are you lot using?

I've tried various versions of Lite'ning, Cognition, Villain, SkyRom, DarkyRom2 and CheckRom. The problem has always been there, including the three stock firmwares before I flashed custom roms. I've tried different router settings, but not a different router (for any decent length of time anyway). Mine lasts a little while before dropping out but I have no idea how long - don't have the time to sit down and figure that one out!

My way of dealing with it has been to make the wifi sleep when the screen is off. That way each time I go to use it the connection is fresh.

I did lose my signal and it came back 15 minutes ago. My router is 1 floor above me. It is on 1 bar at the moment. As I am writing this it went to 2 bars but went to 1 again.

Cheers for the idea :) I do like the sound of this as a workaround.
If I understand the setting correctly then background downloads with screen off switch over to packet data. A small compromise in my opinion. Will def test...
