does anyone know why the s4mini is not available in the US?
Samsung doesn't want our money. I waited a looong time for this one. They lost me to the nexus 4 price cut.

Seriously though, the US market is more dominated by subsidies than a lot of markets, and I think the s4 mini is aimed at less subsidized markets. We'll get it, and quicker than we got the s3 mini (which just hit some us carriers this year), in part because the US market is changing with nearly 100 million prepaid users of which 1/3 are MVNO users, but we're not a big priority for this one.

I9195x is the demo version without radio hardware. Just to play with it. Everything else same as I9195

is there a 16gb version of s4 mini? what variant?
Yes there is a 16gb variant of the i9195 (international LTE), at least for Telecom New Zealand (I have one), but I also see reports in India, UK and elsewhere. I don't know how common it is since there's little mention in GSM Arena or a number of other places but then again perhaps it came out after the launch and stuff tends to be biased in favour of what's announced at launch.

Just to add my opinion to a few posts regarding the S4 mini. I think this phone has its place. For someone like me who had difficulties finding a phone with the 4.3" form factor it isn't so easy with the trend going to larger phones. So finally I settled for the S4 mini and I love it. It's fast,
weighs only 108 grams, has a removable battery, an additional sd card slot, enough RAM and a modern and fast CPU.
On vacation my wife (iPhone 4s) and I compared cameras just for fun shooting the same pictures for comparison and we realized both cameras are nearly on par with each other. One have the edge over the other alternately in certain situations.

Meanwhile I flashed CWM and have a nightly build from the 24th October on the phone which runs very well [thanks to the dev, here] and I'm looking forward to further builds from this side.

The CM build doesn't drain the battery like the stock Samsung 4.2.2 version did. The camera is able to save the pics to the external sd card (important for me) which I formatted as ext4 (no problems for the CM 10.2 here with ext4) for better compatibility with my Linux desktop.

i love this small phone

when i bought it i thought the S3 was faster, but i think now its the opposite, this S4 mini is faster than the S3 in all benchmarks i checked

software wise im disappointed in samsung as usual, random lags and lack of prompt updates

hardware wise, its pretty nice for a a small phone

thank god for the modding community :)

Nope. That's constant.

So after a few days, I'm liking the s4 mini more and more.
Unlike my 3 previous HTC phones, this guy has CLEAN headphone sound.
Beats or not, on every rom or sense, the One S and Aria had awful overamped hissing sound. The Motorola droid mini I tested also had it.
Maybe it's a samsung thing, but I can finally use my headphones comfortably.

As I'm typing this, I just heard a cough behind an orchestra performance...

I have to register my mac address to my work wifi. I admit, I didn't quite compare, but its worked across Roms and stock roms on my old One S
Googling, it looks like the mac address won't change, but the way it's reported to the OS may change.

How can you flash custom rom if you're not rooted?
Maybe there is your problem.
that's why I'm asking first. I flashed many custom roms on my sgy, but when I revert back to stock rom, my wifi mac address is lost. I knew what is the purpose of rooting the phone before flashing any custom roms or kernels.
