Galaxy SIII Annoyances Megathread

Galaxy SIII is a fantastic phone, but I seem to be constantly let down by touchwiz stuff. My idea for this thread is a big, long list of annoyances and suggestions for fixing them.

For example, an annoyance: TW doesn't support sorting the app drawer by name, you have to manually sort things and that goes slow. You would have thought they'd have a better way to manage the app drawer by now, but alas, no.

Solution: AppZorter Lite is a free solution that will sort your app drawer for you. Bonus: I like a nice empty app list, so I've gotten it hidden (one thing TW does do) and just launch it from the store when I need to.

Two that I haven't solved:

1) Facebook has filled my contact list with a huge number of people I don't care about, seems to have ignored the "only sync with existing contacts". Removing facebook users is a process: hold on the user, press delete, confirm that it isn't actually deleting.

2) The default MMS app seems to send (or displays?) all picture messages as slideshows. Super lame. Is there any way to turn this out without installing a 3rd party app?
Agreed with Facebook issue. Happened on my fascinate and again on here. Very annoying when I am driving and go to scroll through people to call...

As for the MMS, I ran with an older version... then again... rooted and rom'ed. Beans all the way! Just gotta get a full AOSP build with no touch wiz...

Has anyone experienced this with their phone? It's like some sorta adware or something... I click it and it opens iPhone browser to some ad. I don't recall downloading anything that's not from market... anyone know how I can locate this file obliterate this sob? It's annoying as hell as it comes up like 2 times a day.

Okay I haven't seen this one listed yet. When I plug in the 3.5 mm jack into my truck, I get a lot of static. Also when I am talking to someone, they hear echo in their speaker. Has anyone else noticed this?

Edit: I have yet to have this problem on any other phone I have had.

Like someone mentioned before. Download Airpush Detector from the market. It will tell you which app is SPAMMING you.

Hey thanks for the tip, I installed a thermometer app and airbrush seems to have detected it... however I'm not sure if this occurred before or after I installed that app. Guess I'll find out in due time. Thanks again!

Anyone having issues with lag while playing games? I'm playing fruit Nina and I have noticeable lag...as well as samurai vs zombies. Also when I use advanced task killer... it would take like 5-10 seconds to kill the apps. I hit kill apps and it would be stuck at the screen for aforementioned time and then close apps... weird for a phone with this much horsepower...

I hate hate hate touch wiz, So i got a GS3 which is only 1 day old but I have to admit touchwiz sucks major touch azz, the phone is nice tho but I do miss sense and this GS3 feels plasticy but it has to grow on me. Its too thin and too light. I Like phones with weight and a good feel some may say they like those features but Im use to HTC build feel. So now im with the dark side SAMSUNG but I just wish I could have sense with this phone asap. I rather have stock google than touch azz. But I will never complain about sense again and its laggyness but I dont miss it enough to go to the evo4lte. I need a break from htc but I dont know how long its going to be. I hope the new note competitor they are building is nice. Dont want to end on a down note the GS3 is a good phon,e I just got to get used to it.
I actually bought a One X initially because I liked the build quality more. But one day of sense, and the IMHO yellowish whites, and washed out blacks of the screens didn't feel like an upgrade to me. The screen, despite all of it's praise, reminded me of my original droid after having an iPhone, and a Galaxy Nexus (only had it a week, the battery life infuriated me on the Verizon version, so I went to ATT). Also, Sense absolutely infuriated me, and is even uglier than touch wiz if that's possible. (I knew I was going to root either of the phones, but it appeared the GS3 was going to have more developer support). The phone has really grown on me, I actually find it to be very classy and sleek looking... something about the one X despite feeling much better in the hand, still didn't feel contemporary (I think it was the glass not being flush with the plastic honestly). I do enjoy the ergonomics of the GS3, although I believe the home button is too low, and the phone should have more weight at the bottom like the Galaxy nexus to better balance in your hand, since the home button arrangement being what it is, causes you to have most of the screen outside of your hand. This is why I believe google's stock onscreen buttons are genius. Not only do they put the keyboard in a more ergonomic position (near the middle of the phone as opposed to the bottom which is a real hassle with this phone because it constantly feels like it's slipping out of your hand) but they are also easier to reach, and much quicker to press than physical buttons. I don't understand why the OEM's are so averse to them, as they reduce production cost of the phones.

I have sense installed AOKP on mine, and am in love. It is nearly as nice as the GNex was with Jellybean, and hopefully will be on par (better because of the battery life and screen and battery) when we have an official CM10 release. My new case is waiting on the stoop at home according to Amazon, so I'm hoping that will remedy the slip n' slide feeling in my hand.

I wanted to love the One X because plasticy phones to me are irritating, especially at this price point. But alas, despite all of the blogs claiming how nice the one X screen was, the LED bleeding, yellowish whites, and washed out blacks drove me crazy. I'll take a blue hint and perfect blacks over that any day. Ironically though, the pentile is more noticeable to me on the GS3 than the GNex. But the GNex had some color reproduction issues.

There are quite a few games that lag terribly on my AT&T version that play super smooth on my International version. My guess is that they haven't been optimized yet.

I have a major problem with Fruit Ninja and Siege Hero.

i must be one of the few people in the community that like the galaxy s3 touchwiz and "motion". Maybe I'm just on that "new phone" high.

In the (admittedly short) amount of time I spent playing with a One X in an AT&T store, I also didn't understand why the screen is so highly rated. It looked "nice," but not necessarily amazing or super-impressive. It certainly didn't "wow" the way SAMOLED screens do; although I know not everyone likes that SAMOLED "pop" (they complain of over-saturation). I guess I'm just partial to SAMOLED screens, enough so that I can happily live with PenTile on them. (Do you think the PenTile is more noticeable on the GS3 than the GNex because the GS3's screen is slightly bigger, with the same resolution -- i.e., slightly lower pixel density?)

I also agree with you on other points, btw, such as the ugliness of Sense, and the home button on the GSIII feeling like it's placed a little too low... (I don't actually own the phone, but I've played with it a lot.)

Once CM9/10 it's released give it a try. Then you won't be a fan of touch wiz.

Meh, stock Android is still pretty ugly -- as far as Icons and visuals go. At least Samsung spruced up the icons a little bit. While I agree Touchwiz adds a lot of bloat, it's still better looking than vanilla Android. (I prefer Nova Launcher myself.)

That's a matter of opinion. I have been an avid CM7/9 user and tester, and even helped diagnose and correct some issues along with the devs of CM9 on the Sensation. I have used nothing but CM for the last year and a half... until I got my GS3. I put CM9 on the GS3 and tried it out for a couple of days when I first got it, but then I moved back to TouchWiz (possibly permanently). Touchwiz is, without a doubt, the most complete, smooth, user-friendly and customizable ROM I've ever seen loaded on a device by a manufacturer.
I personally prefer it to CM9, and when CM10 comes out I'll try it out and make another objective decision based on what I like better.
But that's the beauty of Android... it allows for personal choice. :)
