Hi all,

I'd like to get some feedback on the following project. It's very similar to the classic, "Space invaders" game but uses all original graphics and code. I don't intend to monetise it in any way, I just want to release it as a free game for people with a Galaxy Gear to enjoy.

Designed specifically for the Galaxy Gear, here are some screenshots of Mini Invaders!

MiniInvaders.png

Video: http://youtu.be/5PbhZCxJuPc

Simple to control, tap to shoot and tilt or use touch control to move the turret.

Touch control: Touch the left or right edge to move and lower-center of the screen to fire.

Current release: v1.01b

Development plans

2.0 - In development
- Enhanced graphics mode (particle effects, transparency, shaders. Let's see what the Gear can do!)
- Animations
- Sound effects

3.0 - Possible
- Different game modes (Arcade/Story/Zen)
- Multiplayer?

1.0 - Released
- Ability to switch between accelerometer and pure touch controls [Done]
- Ability to save control settings and best score [Done]
- Bonus ship? [Done]

Version history

1.01b
- Another possible fix for black screen issue

1.0
- Now saves control setting (requires new permissions)
- Added best score to the game over screen, saved between games
- Added bonus ship worth 500 points
- Minor aesthetic changes

0.9a
- Added control settings, players can switch between touch control and accelerometer control (tap the chip in the top-right of the title screen).
- Fixed title screen touch areas

0.8.1a
- Removed requirement for GPU, may help with some ROMs

0.8a
- Initial release

I have a few other Gear-specific games I could release in the future, let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I'd like to get some feedback on the following project and I'm wondering how it stands in terms of copyright. It's very similar to the classic, "Space invaders" game but uses all original (but similar) graphics and code. I don't intend to monetise it in any way, I just want to release it as a free game for people with a Galaxy Gear to enjoy.

(coming as soon as I get enough posts...)

Simple to control, tap to shoot and tilt to move the tank.

This project is almost ready to release and I wanted to know if there is any interest in it and whether anyone can help with the copyright concerns. I have a few other Gear-specific games I could release in the future.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about copyright, but I know they have the PacMan on the Tizen. So I say go for it and ask later? Plus I really want to play Space Invaders....:p

I think I'll follow the philosophy of, "If it seems reasonable, do it until someone tells you not to."

If I remember correctly they never protected the game just the name, that's why there were so many clones. Would never happen today. Lol.

I just installed it and tried to open it - I've seen mini invaders in top bar, then screen went black and I had to restart my Gear.. Does not work.

I'm sorry to hear that. Could you give some more details? So far, you're the first to give any feedback and all I know is it works fine on my Gear with stock firmware and nothing else installed/changed besides two apps (you can see them in the video). I installed with adb.

Are you using stock firmware?
Which version?
How much space do you have left?
Any modifications?
How did you install it?

I'm on Null 22.1, about 1 GB left, installed via wondershare.

Could you try installing with adb? I haven't used wondershare. As it is, the app isn't signed so you may need developer settings enabled, I'm not sure.

15 downloads and only one comment on it so far? Has anyone else had problems/success with it?

Thanks for the game! Yes it installed fine, I sideloaded with Android Commander (GUI ADB) Game started right up, I had to figure out controls quickly, lol....Well the graphics aren't out of this world, but the name of the game is...haha..lolol...Ok, crappy joke.... but the concept is there and it is very entertaining. I just need to learn to play a little better. I wasted my limited ammo...:p Overall, it's a cool game. Thanks a bunch for sharing.

I'm not fan of using ADB. Everything else works through Wondershare, I'll try to install it through device and report.

Installed it on device itself, it does not work. Freezes my Gear, and also my brothers Gear. Both on the same ROM.

I really have no idea what could be stopping it working on the Null_ 22 ROMs, has anyone else tried it with stock or other versions of Null_?

I have one theory and I'll try that fix for the next update later.

Well, I was hoping for more feedback or interest in this project. As it hasn't generated as much interest as I had hoped I'm going to focus more on other things. My original plan was to build the app for the Galaxy Gear then possibly expand it to Android Wear.

Thanks to everyone who commented, I might come back to this in the future if I find time and motivation.

EDIT: Motivation found. I'll be releasing version 1.0 soon.

Sorry, I hate to triple post but I've just uploaded v1.0 and thought that was bump-worthy.

Hey man, I install the 1.0 and is still - black screen

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. Could you try using the stock firmware? If that's not possible, I understand. It would help to figure it out if you found that it worked on stock or other firmwares.

Has anyone else had this issue? I need more information to narrow it down.

Sorry to say same for me just a blank screen and I'm on null 23

I'm sorry to hear that you've had issues too but I appreciate the feedback. I'm seeing 52 downloads of v.1.0, has no one else had that issue or is everyone else staying silent about it? I would really appreciate more feedback to help narrow down the issue.

As far as I'm aware, null_ firmware includes on-screen keyboard support so I've removed keyboard support from the app (it wasn't necessary anyway) and posted a new version with the keyboard layer removed.

Please let me know if 1.01b fixes your issue.
