Hello xda android enthusiasts!

I'd like to let everybody know about a free game I developed and published on the market. It's called Wordplay and it's a (imo) really fun, very flexible, word puzzle game. The basic idea of the game is to form words by touching blocks in a letter grid. By adjusting the settings, however, you can create the type of gameplay that's just right for you.

Some of the features
  • English and Dutch dictionaries included by default
  • Ability to block certain words and add additional words (on a per-dictionary basis). You don't think "biwinning" is a real English word? Block it! ;-)
  • Customizable grid sizes: you can even play on non-square grids if you like, for some variation on the old 4x4 gameplay.
  • Game rules can be changed: You can choose to enable or disable diagonal moves or bends in a word to keep the gameplay fresh. More variations coming!
  • Minimum/maximum word count: Generated games will contain an amount of words within a specified range. Only want games with lots of words in them? No problem, specify a high minimum word count! Want a totally different challenge? Specify minimum word length 9, maximum word count 1 and try to find the only 9-letter word in a 7 by 7 grid. (Good luck!)
  • Eight nice default color schemes, plus the ability to pick your own custom color scheme
  • Scoring system, using points per minute and percentage of maximum score metrics. Think you're better than your friends? Now you can (dis)prove it! Up to six high scores can be kept per metric per dictionary. Note that letter frequency determines how much points a letter is worth!
  • "Easy" and "hard" mode: In easy mode you can see the validity of a word while making it (it will be indicated by the background color of the word field), whereas in hard mode you can't. Note that the game is really very hard this way.
  • Sound effect and vibration settings may be configured to the user's exact preference; you may toggle individual sound/vibration events or disable them alltogether.

The game also has in in-game help file, that explains everything about it, so if you're unclear about anything, the answer is probably in there :) Lastly, more gameplay variation is coming in an update soon. Specifically, a new game mode is in development that will challenge even the biggest expert.

The game can be downloaded on the android market through this link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jkb.wordplayfree.

Or just scan the QR code below:

Additionally, there is a paid version with some more features. (Note that this is actually a key app that unlocks the extra features on the main app.)

Additional paid version features
  • The ability to load your own dictionaries into the game!
  • Word definition look up: Not sure what 'uric' means? Simply press on it twice in the list shown after game end to look it up online!

So, that's the introduction. I hope you guys will give the game a look. Please feel free to mail or PM me if you have any issues at all! Twitter url for updates: http://mobile.twitter.com/quaerendo. Suggestions/feedback via this forum thread, email (see the developer info in the market or use the feedback button in-game) or twitter (see above) are always welcome. Consider rating Wordplay on the market, if you enjoy it! To finish, I'll leave you with a few screenshots, because a picture says more than a 1000 words...

Requirements:
The game is for phones with Android 2.1 or higher, no matter the screen size. Some of the functionality does require an SD card, but most phones have that, so I don't think that will be an issue.

Two updates released since the last post here:

v1.9.0
_____
* Added many UI improvements and the option to replace Q blocks with Qu blocks.
* Dictionary updates

v1.10.0
______
* Added a new feature: hot blocks. This feature adds a lot of fun to the game. If enabled, the game will randomly pick a block in your grid, and designate it "the hot block" and darken it on the screen. Now, if you form a word while using this letter block, the word will be worth more points. You can specify the duration of hotness (when it cools down, another hot block will immediately take its place), and also the score multiplier. Note that if you made a word while none of its blocks were hot, those potential bonus points will be lost to you! This game feature therefore rewards those who can keep track of a lot of word locations, because they will be able to cash in on the bonus points whenever the hot block lands in the right place.

Check it out.
